The 2013 Prospect Thread

I consider quickness (the ability to explosively accelerate and decelerate), or "Launch" in Gridian terms, to be one of THE most important attributes in a football player. I'll check him out, thanks.
In his case, he combines an incredible ability to launch and accelerate with an amazing ability to anticipate the snap and launch at the exact right time. If he had any more quickness off the ball, he would be deflecting snaps (without committing offsides penalties). It's amazing.

On the downside, he needs to work on his conditioning. He has major stamina problems. But he does have a great motor when he is on the field.

Oh, but try to get film on him as a 1 or 3 technique. He's playing a lot of end this year, but he shows his quickness when he is lined up as a 3 technique

Tom Wort looked good yesterday in what I saw of that game (Oklahoma @ Texas Tech), what is your take on him?

I'm a sucker for converting very athletic but also raw prospects in a different position to the offensive line, do you think he'd work well on the interior O-line with an extra 20lbs of muscle?

If you watch McCoil, I can't guarantee you will be impressed. I don't know how much his effort has improved, and he still needs to work on his route recognition skills, but he's like Ed Reed with the ball in the air and has Kenny Phillips' body.

It's much easier to get game film on Miles than you would expect. For some inexplicable reason, Fox College Sports Atlantic (FCSA) has a TV deal with California PA (who knew?), and it's very easy to see their games your cable includes the Digital Sports Package. All of their games are nationally broadcasted.

I haven't closely paid attention to Stafford (two games of film from last year), but he looked pretty good from what I saw.

I found one video of McCoil, and I haven't watched it yet, but it's from 2011. It's last season's bowl game, but I still have a bias for 2012 tape. Dexter MCcoil vs BYU 2011 - YouTube

Do you know of any videos of McCoil or Miles from 2012, and do you know if either of them are captains?

Stafford is a good player, but I've only scouted him once this season which isn't an adequate sample size. He's a good all around safety, but he need to improve the lines he takes to the ball carrier. I like him more than TJ McDonald, but not quite as much as Kenny Vaccaro. He is a captain and emotional leader which is something Belichick looks for, as well as a good special teams player.

Regarding your mock, I don't know much about those specific players other than McDonald and Mellette, but I'd like to see a lot more offensive line. Guard is arguably the biggest need, and center and tackle are up there too.

Love this guy. Electric player in the Percy Harvin mold. Although I'd feel guilty taking a player like this in the mid 2nd with so many other needs I can't help but wonder of the ways he could be used. Simply put, the stupid negative kick returner threads would finally be laid to rest immediately. Downright playmaker who can line up as a wr/rb/kr/pr. So much value.
Receiver has always been my favorite position to scout, mostly because I'm pretty good at it. I called Antonio Brown the most underrated prospect of the 2010 draft, and I was the one guy crazy enough to say he was worthy of a late first round pick. Tavon Austin is the only player I have ever seen who rivals Brown in terms of quickness and change of direction skills. I love it. The senior wide receiver class sucks, but I have no objections with Austin being a late second rounder.

One safety I forgot to mention: Matt Elam may be 5'10, 205lbs, but he tackles like he is 6'4, 240lbs. Think T.J. Ward with more speed.

He reminds me a of DeSean Jackson, but without the attitude. Their bodies and athleticism are similar, and they're both very difficult to cover one on one. I'd love to see him rocking the Elvis, but I always worry about the receivers of the best QB in CFB and vice versa. Is Smith making them look even better than they are? Is it the other way around? Is the team that takes Smith in the top 3 going to reach for one or both of Bailey and Austin? It's just something I think about.

Elam is definitely a guy I need to check out.

He's 6'2. Arms are too short

No opinion yet. I watch 300 games a year because I have 3 TiVo's. However, I can't watch all of them that quickly, and I often scout a bunch of games of one particular team before moving on to another team. If you've seen my scouting notes, you'll see I have virtually no notes on them yet. I have 5 of their games on my TiVo, but, as of now, I know nothing. These are the teams of I haven't scouted much. I have 3 games of film on my TiVo on all of these teams (except Temple, Wake Forest, and Duke), but I haven't watched them yet
Virginia
Maryland
Wake Forest
Kansas State
Washington State
Temple
Connecticut
Syracuse
Kansas
Oklahoma
Texas Christian
Oregon State
Duke
Don't ask me about anyone on these teams for now. I'll catch up soon.

who likes larry warford in the 2nd round. from kentucky

Your thoughts on James Gayle, DE from Virginia Tech?

The New England Patriots defense desperately needs to upgrade the left defensive end position next season.

i think he fits better in a 3-4 olb. perfect size for it

I'd prefer if the New England Patriots address the left defensive end position no later than the bottom of the second round.

there are plenty of d ends. i want their first pick to be dion jordan

Jeff Saturday is 6'2, he's done pretty well for himself. Humor me, as far as being able to move other players and also prevent them from moving, as he'd need to do on the O-line do you think he has those attributes?

what did he say

My scouting notes on Jordan contradict themselves, because I often mistake Jordan for another player. That being said, I don't love him. He has tremendous length and he is a solid athlete, but he is very raw in his fundamentals, his instincts need a lot of work, and he contributes nothing against the run.

i have to disagree with the run comment. and its not like the guy is an idiot. he is a hard worker too with a good motor. JPP was raw, and chandler jones was supposed to be raw too. look at those 2 guys and how they turned out. plus this guy has unheard of size athleticism and versatilty(he can play in the secondary sometimes)

Jordan is off my board. The New England Patriots desperately need a 4-3 defensive end, who not only can set the edge, but also rush the passer.
