This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

The article fails to mention probably their biggest offseason miss which was not being able to lure Peyton Manning who's having an MVP season. They should have backed up the Brinks truck to his house, dumped Sanchez and use McElroy as their back up QB. I know Manning had no interest in playing there but you never know... money talks. Instead they extend Sanchez and bring in Side Show Tebow.

I don't think that P6 wanted anything to do with the AFCE or taking headlines away from his little brother in NY, though I'm sure he'd love to meet him in the SB. The place he ended up is probably what he wanted all along, a decent AFC team in an easy division.

Fundamentalist theologians have theorized that Hurricane Sandy hitting New Jersey so hard was Mother Nature's attempt to clean up Jets suckage.

Nature abhors a vacuum.

Never early to joke about the Jests but too early to make light of the hurricane.

LOL! Yes, the Dolphins look at beating the Jets as the ultimate pinnacle that they have arrived. Why would the Dolphins look at beating a mediocre team like the Jets that historically they are very successful against as their Super Bowl? The Dolphins had six wins last year and one of them were vs. the Jets. In fact over the last three years, the Dolphins are 6-3 vs. the Jets.

Beating the Jets is too common of an occurrance for any team to set their sights on. It is going to happen 10-11 times this season.

Wow. How in the world can a sane person write that the Miami Dolphins set out each season with the sole purpose of beating the NY Jets? Isn't the first goal on the chalkboard every season to "Win the Division" and make the playoffs?

The last time the NY Jets won the AFC East was 2002.

So, okay, the Miami Dolphins under head coach Dave Wannstedt with Norv Turner as Offensive Coordinator wrote "Beat the Jets" on the chalkboard in 2003 at the beginning of training camp.

Since then it's been "Beat the Patriots" except for 2008 when the Dolphins finished 11-5 tied with the Pats and won the AFC on a tie-breaker.

Hmmm... actually my whole point was that any Pats fan could write the exact same post verbatim w.r.t to how we view the Jets, and it's funny they think of the Phins that way without any self-awareness.

But it all ties together.

Whenever I read the posts in this thread (haven't been a member for very long yet) I can't help but wonder if Jest fans ever lament what might have been?

After all, they had Bill Belichick as their head coach... TWICE! Yes, you young 'uns, that Bill Belichick.

This is the story:

The New York Jets and New England Patriots have long had one of the most heated rivalries in the NFL, and a few moves in the late '90s only added fuel to the fire. It all started five days after the Patriots lost to the Packers in Super Bowl XXXI when Bill Parcells stepped down as head coach of the Pats. Speculation was flying around the league that he was heading to New York to become the Jets head coach. However, Patriots owner Robert Kraft got the NFL to restrict Parcells from coaching anywhere in the 1997 season. Instead, the Jets named longtime Parcells assistant Bill Belichick their new head coach.

Just four days after his hiring he was demoted to assistant coach when New York and New England reached a deal that allowed Parcells to coach the Jets. After three relatively successful seasons, Parcells stepped down as the head coach to become chief of football operations. He thought he’d be leaving the team in the capable hands of Belichick. However, in a surprise move, Belichick resigned just one day after being elevated to head coach.

He infamously scribbled his resignation note on a napkin which read “I resign as HC of the NYJ”. After delivering a rambling 30 minute speech, trying to make sense of his decision to the Press, he was gone. In the speech he said, "I had no clear direction of where I am going in the organization." The Jets jerking him around by naming him head coach three seasons earlier and then demoting him, may have had something to do with that line of thinking.

Strangely enough, Belichick was also once head coach of Baltimore, in fact he was their first one. Belichick was fired on February 15, 1996, one week after the move from Cleveland to Baltimore became official.

Back to on topic for this thread, the Jets still SUCK!

I take exception to the description of the Pats-Rats relationship as a "heated" rivalry.

Was the relationship between the U.S. and Benedict Arnold a "heated rivalry"?

The Pats-Rats relationship is based on the Pats trying to receive justice for Rat treachery and then being escalated by the Rats enlisting the Omissioner in a scorched earth campaign to try and besmirch the Pats' reputation when they realized they could never match the Pats' accomplishments on the field.

Ironically, if it wasn't for the penchant of New Yorkers for feeling as if they shouldn't have to settle for less than the best, and even worse have to be kept waiting for it by a "lesser" team playing in a Superbowl, they could have passed on the "name" HC candidate in Bill Parcells, and respectfully waited until after the SB, and then requested permission to speak to Bill Belichick about being their next HC.

Then they would have likely had their own dynasty, along with the bragging rights of discovering the next gr8 thing at HC by themselves.

Instead, they got to find out, up close and personal, just how much of a ***** karma is, but that is the Rat way.

You can just tell Belichick hates being a Rats coach, just look at his expression:

But as a Pats coach, he's much happier, as you can clearly see:

I rest my case.

I'm tired of talking about the Jets really. They get old after several years. The Dolphins....let's focus on the Dolphins, the only team in this division that's competitive with us right now and looks to have a bad future.

Then again, if they become good, we can't make a Dolphins suck thread, since the Jets have always sucked.

Such is the suck of the JEST that despite how badly they suck, they do not have a monopoly.

That's right -- we don't want them to think they do anything better than everyone else. But it's hard to deny that as an organization and fan base, the Green Beans collectively have set a new standard for ultimate suckage.

Umm, I'm fairly certain the Jets have the monopoly on suckage and we as Pats fans will gladly pay a higher price just to continue their suckage (econ lessons in this thread!).
