Texans' Matt Schaub out for season - affect on AFC playoffs?

looks like HFA is down to AFCE winner and AFCN winner. I don't think HFA will matter though in the playoffs.

But what a difference 24 hours makes.

At this time yesterday Sterling Moore and Jeff Tarpinian were just named starters, the sky was falling and we looked to be in a dogfight just to make the playoffs. Now, looking at the rest of our schedule and what our main competition for a bye just lost, I'd be shocked if we didn't earn at least a 2 seed.

This sucks for us Texans fans. We finally are having our big season and now our QB goes down after losing AJ and Mario.

I think Leinart might do alright though. His skill set is similar to Matt Schaub and shouldn't have to be a star at QB for us to win. It's the playoffs I worry about though.

I picked TJ Yates is the my deep binkie in the draft. If Leinart can't get it done he will get his chance. Reckoned the guy needed a year sitting behind a decent starter and he got half a season so he could be ready.

I still see the pats only getting the #3 seed...unless the texans really blow up

I think we'll finish 12-4. All these games are games we should win, just one team (Buffalo) has a winning record and there's a chance that may not be the case when we play them if they continue to falter. But I bet we have one more stinker in that stretch and drop one that we shouldn't like against Buffalo.

In that scenario the Texans would need to lose 2 more games, which isn't that big of a collapse.

I am sticking to my prediction after the Pitts game 1. Pitts 2. Pats 3. Texans 4. AFC West winner 5 and 6. Ravens/Jets/Bengals/Tenn

Your defense has been playing great all year and your teams strength is running the ball. I would say Houston is a long way from being toast. Not at all interested in seeing them in the playoffs.

I wouldn't mind. They are built on the run. Yes they can pass but pats would have a better chance with them than a pass happy team like NO or GB ect

The Texans (IMO) have the best running game in football and one of the better defenses in football. You'll be OK.

Two years ago they stomped us into dust. Arian Fosters breakout game. Their offense is not a good match up for our defense.

Re: News which could impact the Playoff seeding: Schaub is injured

Ladies and gentlemen:

Matt Leinhart is your new Texans starter!
He's been in that system for a few years. The Texans really wanted him back. A lot of people thought Leinart would go to the Seahawks to start and reunite with Pete Carroll.

I think he'll do well, and I'm routing for him,so long as it's not at the Pats expense.

Leinart just needs to be a game manager...... They have enough talent to win games with patience.....he's not on the cardinals anymore....if filter and brad Johnson could go all the way, so can leinart

Slot of ifs in there though

Leinart has never shown he can even rise to the level of competent JAG QB which is what Dilfer and Johnson were. He was available this off season and even his former college coach absent a clear cut starter didn't want him.

Re: OT: Schefter: Matt Schaub out for season... there go the Texans.

Top defense, top running game, top WR, good offensive coach. Team will be smart enough not to expose Leinart. Both their backs are on pace for 1200 yards this season, maybe more with Schaub going down.

They have a good enough team in every phase to simply not allow Leinart to lose for them.

They'll be fine.

I think defenses will play very differently with Leinart under center. I expect that they will defend against the run better if there isn't as much of a passing game to worry about (i.e. safeties in the box, etc).

Leinart is a total schlub. We'll be seeing the Squealers in the AFCCG. Payback is a beyotch.

I agree. Wade Phillips has that defense playing off the charts right now--last four weeks they've been the most dominating D in the league.

People love to hate on Leinhart and make fun of him but he might surprise some people, especially since he doesn't need to carry their offense by any stretch,. The key will be how well Kubiak can make adjustments to a shorter passing game, using Andre's YAC ability among other things.

#1 D in the league, great running game...doesn't matter. Can't win in the NFL without a quality QB.
