Tetairoa McMillan runs a 4.48-4.55 at Pro Day

If it is, it shouldn’t be
I think you're mixing concepts. Straight line speed in a testing environment shouldn't be given disproportionate weighting in how you evaluate a player because there is much more to being an NFL receiver than just that. But at the end of the day straight line speed is still one tool for guys to have in their tool box and 4.53 vs. 4.48, while small in absolute terms, does in fact speak to two players possessing that tool at different levels and it's a factor in their NFL projections. Not saying it's the holy grail to go off of, but it's absolutely a factor.

I think its crazy how a guy puts in a body of work for a whole season and just because he runs under 4.5 at his pro day he is suddenly a much better WR than he was 10 minutes ago when we didn't know his 40 time. Lol. He was falling into the deep teens and now some of you want him at 4. Its ridiculous. He is the same guy as on his film.
And that guy on film was special. The only alleged negative was possible lack of speed. Everyone knows he’s a special talent. I’ve wanted him at 4 (if Hunter was gone) for months. What people don’t realize is that 4.5 and under is fast, not blazing fast like Tyquan Thornton, but still fast.

McMillan ran in the mid 4.5s and not a 4.48. Not that it matters that much. Did he do any other testing? That would be a red flag and would show he’s concerned about his athleticism.

He doesn’t project as a high end WR to me given his lack of separation ability. He’s a top end number 2. It doesn’t feel like a good use of the number 4 pick. Especially when we could have had Metcalf for 38 or could still get Aiyuk.

Tetairoa McMillan needs to be back in serious consideration for the Patriots. He’s got enormous potential as a WR1 for Drake Maye running like that at his size.

This is huge news. Running a sub 4.5 at his size I think puts him right in the discussion for our #4 pick if Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter are both gone. T-Mac projects as a true X receiver. Just let Drake Maye lay the ball up there and let him jump up and get it over smaller DBs and in the redzone. That could be a real nice QB-WR connection for years to come.

That's fair, but not sure that really characterizes what's happening with Tet. I think he's a guy who's tape and production have been discounted some because of a perception that he'll test slow so it won't translate. I think it's kind of the opposite of what you're saying. He's not being elevated above his production/tape because of his time here, it's the time here being respectable enough that it gives credibility to his tape/production. That's different than a guy who didn't produce or look good on tape getting elevated because they ran the 40 fast.
If you felt he was a stud before he ran that’s not what I’m referring to. I’m referring to thinking he’s a better player than before because of the time

Jones was just big. Nothing about his game required him to be a contested catch guy. His route running was the elite of the elite. A real pleasure to watch him excite his craft the way he did
He was the only player that scared me when we played Atlanta in the SB. He was a BEAST!

Getting in a sprinter stance and running 40 yards straight in shorts and a tee shirt 5/100s of a second faster on one given day is as close to meaningless as it gets. 0.05 over 40 yards = 16 inches

I still wouldn't want to take Tet at #4, but the only players I like at that spot are Carter and Hunter.

This news makes me more open to a small trade down, if we can find a buyer. If we picked up Campbell, Warren or Tet at 8 - 10, plus a 3rd to use to move back up for , I'd be happy.

This is hilarious. You claim the guy is special on film and yet you claim there was a lack of speed. All you guys do is vomit back up the media crap you listen to. No on dares to be intelligent and actually watch the film. If they had, speed would not have been an issue. The tape is fine. Teams don't care about media opinion. Today changed nothing. Teams already have Tet graded based on film, not a late workout. At the end of the day, Tet is the 2nd best WR in the draft. He is still not ahead of Harrison, Nabers, Odunze, or Thomas from last year. This is a weak WR draft. The Pats are not picking Tet at 4. Its just not happening. He will fall into 10-20 range just like he has all along.

This news bumps him up to third on my draft board:

1. Hunter
2. Carter
3. Tmac
4. Campbell
5. Membou
6. Warren
7. Graham

We got a 4th rounder to move 4 spots from 14 to 17 in a more well regarded draft class. I doubt it we get anything more than a 3rd rounder to move down.

If only Mayo was fired a week earlier.

Bottom line is if Hunter and Carter are gone, no one wants to trade up, who is the most talented player left? That’s who we take. This Team sorely needs talent.

can we stop nitpicking.

This. Tet is usually open on almost every tape. The perception was that he would run a slow 40 and it would reveal that competition was why he was always winning.

People have been acting like he's going to be harry having to make jump balls all the time, that's just not how he played. He was if anything underrated because people were sure he was going to be show to be a big slow guy at the combine, well he wasn't. It's kind of silly to retroactively ding him now that the predictions didn't pan out.
