Teams calling Pats about Gonzalez

It is pretty amusing. 'Trade your best player under 25'.

I think he's a 10-year starter level player, not necessarily like a perennial all-pro necessarily, but yeah, it would have to be a 1st round pick and a starting tackle at minimum.

No one's calling on Jonathan Jones then - him I'd part with for a 4th.

I wouldn't. Jones has shown some leadership lately. I'd be pissed to see the team trade ANY starters at this stage.

Gonzo is a foundational piece in the rebuild. Those players should not be for sale, especially for future considerations. Constantly churning players who are young leaders is not good for team culture. The only way the team should consider trading him is if they receive a similar player at a different position as part of the deal. The Gonzo of LTs would warrant a long hard look. That is not likely, so I am with you that Gonzo needs to stay.
Yeah, if the Niners wanted to send Trent Williams and next year's 1st, I'd think about it.

But, honestly, I think this is more teams trying to gauge where the Patriots are at, similar to the reports that Lynch asked if the Pats wanted to trade Brady after SB51.

Trent Williams has 2 more years at max and costs 26 million a year and niners 1st is 20 . Gonzo has 3 years at 5 million and it's a weak draft class.

I didn't say I'd do it, just that I'd at least think about it.

And, FWIW, Gonzo has two years left at about $5M. His fifth-year option will probably be on the order of $15M to $20M (it depends on whether he makes the Pro Bowl and exactly how high CB salaries are next year).

Hard to compare a cb with a ss...

adams, though, was a first team all pro in '19... 2nd team all pro in '18 with a dozen sacks on his stat sheet... gonzo? despite his talent, doesn't have that type of accomplished resume...

but the point is understood
There was never a nanosecond that I was apprehensive about Adams being on the other team. Never beat us, never made an impact play against us as a Jet. Incredibly exploitable to a smart team like the Brady Pats. Only INT against us was Jarrett Stidham panic throwing the ball directly during garbage time. Negative locker room presence to boot when he was brought in to “change the culture” for the Jets. Game sealing tackle vs. the Cam Newton Pats was the first time he ever made a play against us in a game where one legged Julian Edelman targeted him repeatedly for his career high in yardage even with washed Cam throwing it to him.

Adams is what would happen if you hypnotized Josh Uche into believing he was a safety.

lmao... that was funny slam. well done

Haven't head anything on Peppers, has anyone else?
Yeah it's been silent on that front. In the commonwealth typically cases that involve domestic issues the state takes over. So this thing could drag out for who knows how long.

I'm interested on the legal status of Peppers. But it's been swept under the rug by Patriots PR.
He's on the Commish's Exempt List. It has to play out in court. There's nothing to sweep under the rug. Watch the sports news. I'm sure they'll have updates when this goes to trial or gets resolved out of court (which is what usually happens in these cases).

I wouldn’t. Trent Williams has 1-2 years left at the most, and that would be a mediocre first rounder. Gonzalez could be one of the best corners in football for years to come.

No it hasn’t, Kraft came out and said he’s gone if the allegations are true. That’s as clear a statement on him as it gets.

This is a new low for the franchise. No respect for Mayo and Wolf. None
If Bill was still here they wouldn't dream of calling for this player.

John Lynch called Belichick and asked him if he wanted to trade Brady.

Trading Godchaux at this point would be raising the white flag.
Trading away guys you deemed as leaders for the future would certainly be an odd message.

Jamal Adams is the most overrated S and possibly player since he’s been drafted in 2017. He’s also been cooked since he was 25.

The 49'ers called for Brady when Bill was still here.

The truth is it costs nothing for teams to make a call and see if there is even a chance to negotiate.

The reality is, nobody is currenly going to give what it would take for this to be worth it to us. He's not very tradeable until we get to a point where we have to pay him a premium to stay here and you start thinking about resources.

Right now on his rookie contract he's worth too much. It would basically take something like

1. An elite player at a position of need that doesn't need a new contract for at least 2 years. I'm talking a Sun God, Hill or Lamb type WR or a Trent Williams/Tyron Smith.

2. Another first rounder.

3. A sweetner swap trade in either the second or third round.

That's going to be too high of a cost for whatever a team gains from Gonzo and anything less is a disservice to us. Teams are basically fishing to see if there is something internal that we might not like about him that makes players like that possible.

Agreed. I feel once we add some pass rushers to our front gonzo and the secondary as a whole will be able to have more opportunities.
