    THIS.

Yeah, someone might back up the Brinks truck....but I think the Patriots will at least come close to the highest bid. Then when Brady compares the numbers + personnel + coaching staff + location, the Patriots will be the destination that makes the most sense and offers him the best chance to reach the promised land again.

Brady's priority is WINNING, IMO. And I don't see anyone capable of offering him a 10+ win team to take deep into the playoffs....especially if the Pats make some concessions to the offensive side of the ball....

The patriots got cap relief and got Brady to play for $23M

I believe the structure was at Brady's request. AFTER the patriots refused to give him anywhere near a market 3 year contract, I believe that Brady did indeed ask to be a free agent, with a voidable contract, with no tags.

Brady can test the market in the 3 days BEFORE the season starts.

I think if he has/had a problem with his compensation, he would discuss it with BB and more importantly, Kraft. I doubt he would get pissed off and storm out of town like these reports have him doing. All these stories coming out are insane. I"m sure he will test free agency and maybe even go on a few visits...but in the end he will come back to Kraft with the offers and they will discuss.

Yes, I believe that Tom has discussed his compensation with Bill and the Kraft's. He accepted $23M and a one-year contract last year, and has indicated that he want a market contract. Tom's 2020 goal isn;t a team-friendly contact. I think that it's that simple.

I expect Tom and his agent to use the 3 days before free agency starts to make his preliminary decision. Sure, the patriots could offer him a similar 3 year deal that he is offered by one off the other team with lost of cap room. I just don't see this happening.
And, I suspect that the team who gets Tom will spend cap money on their OL.
    ====
I don't see Bill waiting until after the deadline and then signing Brady, although it could happen on a 3 year deal.

Tom makes a ton of money but I get it.

I’m embarrassed by a majority of these so called columnists/reporters that cover New England sports. When I hear Volin or Carrot top as a guest of a national show talk about the Patriots I just cringe.

No, the point is that if NE had moved on to JG in 2018 they would have at most sacrificed one appearance and one win (SB53, which was the 2018 season), not two appearances and one win which is what the person I was replying to said.

I guess we will see on Super Bowl Sunday if JG would have been worth that price.

The only way he returns is if he has say in personnel decisions.

That was another putrid Boston Media take. They compared it to Gronk last year, completely glossing over the fact that Gronk was under contract unlike Tom. Tom will be in the free agent market, and he will be signed quickly by whoever signs him. It's not like he'll be waiting until April to mull over offers.

Is Schefter actually in the know or just making a bunch of carefully worded tweets/comments that can’t lose? He seems to be constantly on the edge of saying a split is coming without saying a split is coming. That is not like him...usually he’s a guy who either has something to specific based on sources to say or doesn’t comment. He has been hinting about this since last November or so when he made a big issue about Brady’s free agency and not to be surprised if Brady leaves NE. That was really what started this whole thing, and subsequent comments seem to continue down this road.

Schefter’s scoops are still the most trusted out there. I wonder how much he knows...think he knows a lot more but will reveal only what his sources want him to reveal. And I wonder if his source is from Brady’s side or the Patriots side. He probably hits like .990 on his information.

As it should be. A player having a say, beyond expressing preferences, in personnel matters is madness.

I think that losing TB will be the biggest hit to team competitiveness no matter the cap hit.
