Patriots rankings.
# 5 in time of possession
# 4 in 3rd down D
# 1in both rush attempts and yards defense
# 4 in rushing attempts.
# 8 in 3rd down conversions offense
# 2 in both O and D 4th down conversions.
# 32 in red zone D

Yes, those are interesting stats.

I suppose some of those my pessimistic side thinking......."but are these sustainable against better competition?"

But then I see the red zone stat and think "surely that will improve, right"

So hopefully we end up at 'net even', which at this rate is pretty darn good

I wonder why the team seems to struggle so much in red zone defense?

In Josh's offense the NUMBER of rushes is almost as important as the yards those rushes produce, because of how so much of that offense flows from those runns

Stats are a fun thing to look at, but all I care about is how they match up with the better offenses/defenses. Pats have had a hard time since the dynasty days ended, but they passed their first test against Buffalo. Tomorrow will be another good test even though the Bucs don't have Godwin and Evans.

More info is required to fully understand it, particularly how many times teams make it within the RZ in a game with us, what the avg # of RZ trips are for a team, etc.

If teams are rarely in the RZ against us, one score will speak more in that stat than teams that are often getting backed into their RZ and have more opportunities to produce a consistent percentage.

I'm gonna bet that speaks for some of that number. I'm sure they could stand to improve still, but I feel like teams are often not even in FG range with us, let alone RZ.

We are not as good as the good ones show and not as bad as the worst one also shows. We are a top 12 defense however.

That’s really been documented across the league that number of rushes correlates better to winning than success of rushes

That 3rd down rate explains why lately on 3rd down I find myself expecting the first down.

What a great season so far.

20 trips 15 TDs.

Buffalo, in comparison, is ranked 11th, with 13 TD in 23 trips in 1 less game.

So the 11th ranked red zone D allows 1.625 TDS on 2.875 red zone trips per game and the #32 allows 1.66tds on 2.22 trips.

The stat doesn’t count the FGs made.
