Super Bowl Wins in 49 & 51 more impressive than 36, 38 & 39 ?

I remember now. I think they scored a TD and got the two point conversion. Panthers scored on a bomb to Smith or Muhammed to tie it. Kasey kick out of bounds....we know the rest.

The Muhammad bomb made it 22-21. Ricky Proehl caught the TD to tie at 29 - he also caught the TD to tie the Pats 17-17 in SB36. Could say Mr. "a dynasty starts tonight" was our good luck charm.

I'll never forget that quote. Proehl probably has nightmares of Brady to this day.

The question is who is the most important hall of famer that Brady ever played with? I'd say the answer is Tom Brady.

There were important players ( Gronk, Moss) that are HOFers. To your point, Brady is the most important.

I think Gronk is a beast. I still think he would be a great TE without # 12. I always wonder " How good" though?

I think 51 was the most impressive win because of the comeback, followed by 36. We were 14 point underdogs, after all.

Which is why NE didn't play for OT. Bill knew his defense was fried.

John Madden was a complete fool in that sequence. " You gotta play for overtime". Really now? Your going to take a knee with 1:20 remaining, potentially lose the coin toss, give the ball back to an offense that was domininating a gassed D?

Yeah SB 51 was impressive because of the comeback. To your point, SB 36 was impressive because nobody expected them to win. I truly believe ( Not unlike the 07 Giants) playing the Rams in a tight game during the season was a huge plus.

Ricky Proehl was 100% correct.

28-3, nuff said.

I think the win vs Carolina always comes out a bit underrated. They were that year's Giants getting on a roll and being very deserving of being there. I love the interview where Rodney says that's the hardest hitting game he ever played in. People forget that the first and third quarters although there was no scoring was an epic slugfest. If you like hard hitting football that was an amazing game with sudden onslaughts of scoring as the defenses tired.

People forget what a sled that Rams team was as well. They were looking at being crowned the next dynasty and had they won they would have been deserving. And if they did perhaps they don't fall apart and win another one.

I think that 2 of 3 and this current 2 of 3 are pretty equal. With the Rams and Hawks both coming off recent SB wins and underrated NFCS Atlanta and Carolina giving the Patriots all they could handle. If they were to win this year and beat a better team than Philly who didn't exactly suck at 13-3 and don't forget they only lost to 15-1 Pittsburgh who the Patriots also lost to and both games were in Pitt until the last two weeks of the season when they mailed it in vs the Rams and Bengals.

I laugh every time I see someone post this. Madden's point was valid - a young QB who hasn't even come close to being "The Guy", 1:21 on the clock, ball deep in Pats territory - many coaches would play it safe, not turn it over, and play for OT. Just because BB decided not to doesn't change that.

Does anyone else ever feel it is kind of fleeting? All I want is to win the Super Bowl, but this year it will just feel like a relief. Then everyone moves on to the draft, other fans of other teams just move on to next year like next year is the first Super Bowl ever.

I just want to get to 7 to be ahead of the Steelers and obviously everyone. Hopefully we do draft another QB they can groom up in time to trade him in 4 years because Brady just won his 7th MVP and 9th ring or whatever.

I'm pretty sure I've heard/read that if Redmond doesn't catch that first pass, they settle for OT. (And that play almost ended in disaster).

It's amazing how quickly it feels like 18 years have gone by.

If you were to have said back in October 2001 that, come January of 2018, the Patriots will be lining up for their sixth Super Bowl win as part of an unprecedented run of success and that Brady and Belichick were still be around and be the GOATs, well .... people would have laughed at you.

I mean, even Pete Sheppard would have laughed.

I think SB 36 was most impressive since we weren’t favored to win, shut down Faulk & kick started our dynasty.

However, IMHO SB 49& 51 were more impressive than both SB 38/39.

36/51 but 49 jumpstarted our SB winning days again

51 BY FAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For 49, at the time coming back from 10 down in the 4th Qtr was the biggest comeback in SB history

As a reminder, before the 2001 season, the Sporting News judged the Patriots the least likely team to make the Super Bowl over the next five seasons.

In my early fan days, I loved to gorge myself on preseason mags. That phase only lasted a few seasons, as I came to appreciate what utter garbage the playoff predictions were.

I'm too lazy to do the elaborate ranking thing, so Cliff Notes it shall be.

51 - most impressive to watch
36 - most impressive in context
49 - whew!!!
38 - semi-whew!!!
39 - from drama to McDrab

I’m glad they won the last two. The narrative on this team from Patriot haters and the media would have been insufferable,

....and Madden would have looked like a genius. Kind of odd how thin that line is between fool and genius.
