It's pretty amazing to me that these were considered the two best teams in football, the 49ers and the Chiefs, and yet there were so many mistakes made in the game that led to its final outcome.
If the 49ers make a few less boneheaded plays they would be Champions tonight. And if the Chiefs had capitalized on the 49ers initial screwup fumble to take the early lead, this would have changed the entire tone of the game.
It does kind of bother me that the game hinged on special teams blunders to almost gift wrap this championship to the Chiefs.
The biggest blunder committed by the 49ers return team. One guy inexcusably lets the ball go off his leg, forcing the other guy to scramble for the ball and fail to come up with it. That was a WTF moment.
And the second special teams disaster, lining up for a simple extra point and failing to block correctly leading to the 49ers failing to take a 4 point lead which would have put a TON more pressure on the Chiefs to go for the TD instead of simply tying it with a FG to take it to overtime.
I do feel like the Chiefs earned their win because they scored the TD to win it in OT. But the 49ers were definitely complicit in their own demise with some inexcusable blunders and brainfarts at crucial moments in the game!
