Still don't understand how Austin Carr wasn't drafted

From the other Carr thread

1) I hate giving you this answer but here
it goes. No one, I repeat no one knows why/ how some guys slip through the cracks. Teams have their own unique board with anywhere from 50-200 players theyve identified as X-type players. Or Patriot-type Players as I like to call em. I suppose some guys get cancelled out like that.

Some teams are set at wr. Some have a type. Everyone has a certain type whether it's your girlfriend or a player you're drafting.

Also his college production wasn't great if I remember correctly? I think before last year he had a total of 500 yards/3 TD in his in 2 years. My

2)One question I had with Carr was press man. Something you alluded to. It's a different animal in the NFL. If you cant win at the LOS it's incredibly difficult to succeed at that position. With guys like Carr, smaller, quicker than fast guys. It's a see it to believe type thing.

Also I'm not sure he has that quick twitch acceleration to truly excel w/ yac.

He's a tough guy though that has no problem laying out for a contested catch and as we saw he can rise for one to.

3) One thing I liked about Luc was his potential at the next level regarding yac. Obviously his hands were prob his biggest asset but I thought he'd be a better pro than in college regarding that aspect of his game.

4) I'm fuxkin out at Ebert.

Yeah he had problems with the press

The draft remains an inexact science.

And when you think of the millions team's invest in the draft process, you just scratch your head.

After the first-preseason game I thought "wow, that sucks we'll have to cut this guy due to not being enough sports on the roster. he's playing like a classic Patriots receiver"

Little did I know, we would indeed have a MAJOR spot on the roster for him.....nor did I realize he'd do nothing in the three games after to convince me he deserves said spot

He's an undrafted FA - I hope he finds a team
And becomes a serviceable player. Best of luck

Wouldn't be shocked if the Colts picked him up to replace Dorsett or even the Texans, seems like a good fit with BOB even a talent starved team like the Jets could surely use him.

Hope he makes it to the PS not holding my breath though, some teams could definitely use him the Pats are just so deep at the position.

Now that we have the benefit of witnessing how the Patriots constructed their initial 53-man roster, I would like to hear from those that wanted Carr to answer this:

If you were the GM, what would you have done differently in order to retain Carr?

Wish him luck but hes limited and always will be. He can crave out a niche but hes very much replaceable.

I would have kept Lucien over him but Dorsett over both.

There was a report saying we'd look outside to solidify the position and we did. It's a great WR Corp even without Edleman. And we have an embarrassment of riches for weapons. Legit 10 deep with Brady at QB and Josh at OC.

I guess today you can start wondering why he was cut.

And tomorrow you can start wondering why he cleared waivers.............
You can stop wondering. He was signed by the Saints yesterday onto their practice squad.

No he was not. He was signed to their active roster, you cant claim a player and put them onto your PS. Which means there is a good chance he gets cut after W3 when Snead is back from his suspension.

Then it was erroneously reported. Just forwarding info, Ace. We'll see in week 3 if you're the NFL Executive of the Year. ************...

No, it was widely reported that he was claimed on waivers. That means he MUST be on their 53. There is no uncertainty at all about it.

Well as it turns out he was claimed by one of the best teams for evaluating WR talent over the past 10 years. Given the acquisition of Dorsey cutting Carr made sense as did the cutting of Kenny Moore to get an All Pro ST/CB in Bademosi.

He had Carr getting through waivers, not an especially good track record.
