text of what he said:

I think what most people have an issue with is the statement "I feel like I've come home here. I am a Giant in my heart. I'm so glad my son's a NY Giant. I struggle sometimes up in New England, but I know I got a home in New York." I know most people could care less that he pulls for his son. He should. Good for him. I believe that the issue is that he's put out an image that he's one of us, and made a very good living off that image, with restaurants, tailgate parties, and as a radio/TV personality who is supposedly "one of us". He's not one of us. He pines to be in NY. The fact that he's put out a false image, and made a handsome living off it, is was frosts most folks IMO.

Like any other statement, hearing it with the level of enthusiasm as well as the body language, facial expressions, etc... makes it far worse. It was very clear that in that video he was clearly getting his true feelings out, peeling back the facade that he lives while in the Boston area.

Pigs (Three Different Ones) by Pink Floyd
(Waters)

Big man, pig man, ha ha charade you are.
You well heeled big wheel, ha ha charade you are.
And when your hand is on your heart,
You're nearly a good laugh,
Almost a joker,
With your head down in the pig bin,
Saying "Keep on digging."
Pig stain on your fat chin.
What do you hope to find.
When you're down in the pig mine.
You're nearly a laugh,
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.

Bus stop rat bag, ha ha charade you are.
You ****ed up old hag, ha ha charade you are.
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass.
You're nearly a good laugh,
Almost worth a quick grin.
You like the feel of steel,
You're hot stuff with a hatpin,
And good fun with a hand gun.
You're nearly a laugh,
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.

Hey you, Whitehouse,
Ha ha charade you are.
You house proud town mouse,
Ha ha charade you are
You're trying to keep our feelings off the street.
You're nearly a real treat,
All tight lips and cold feet
And do you feel abused?
.....! .....! .....! .....!
You gotta stem the evil tide,
And keep it all on the inside.
Mary you're nearly a treat,
Mary you're nearly a treat
But you're really a cry.

(Written in part about Mary Whitehouse, but much of which fits Fraud DeOssie).

DeOssie rooted for his son out in the open in 2007. He even explained, then, his connection with the Giants but in a positive manner with no negativity towards the Pats and NE fans.

He actually sucked me in with his " damn, I wanna root for the Pats but my hearts in NY on this one" schtick.

If he had done that again, and avoided the disingenuity, we would not have this thread.

I've ignored this thread for close to 50 pages because I couldn't understand people being upset with a father rooting for his son. I clicked on the last page strictly by accident and noticed DeOssie's disturbing quote. It was not just about rooting for his son. It was about disrespecting a team he played on, deriding the region he grew up in, and more importantly insulting the FANS who he relies on for his living. ABSOLUTELY he should be shunned and called on for his comments at every opportunity.

When I was a young assistant coach at Archbishop Williams in the late 70's DeOssie was a FB/LB for Don Bosco HS. BC High, Catholic Memorial, and Williams were generally the cream of the Catholic Conference in those days. Being an inner city school in Boston Don Bosco didn't usually attract great football talent on a regular basis. DeOssie was the center piece of one of the few really good Don Bosco Teams.

Because of this connection, I followed his progress with interest as he went on to BC and the NFL. Of course coaches talk about old players, especially ones that have later success in college and beyond at clinics and the like. Because of this I found out that even in HS DeOssie was every bit the bully he characterizes in his radio shtick. Throwing kids into lockers was not just a metaphor for him. He was the same way in college, and was the same to his various wives. NOT a good guy. That he would turn his back on his own heritage in such a two faced manner isn't a surprise to me.

His NE Tailgate with Orday is a show to missed just on its merits or lack thereof. Boycotting it because of DeOssie would be redundant. However management in the media should be made aware that nothing DeOssie has to say will ring true with Patriots fans any longer, and his presence on the air can only hurt their product.

BTW- I got to know Smerlas on a personal basis because of business opportunity years after he retired, and it should be known he's exactly the OPPOSITE of his bullying persona. Smarter than he lets on, and a good guy, though I don't think he brings much to the table as an analyst unless the talk is specifically about the DL or inside the locker room

I can also attest to your assessment of Smerlas. Hes polite. Good guy. He respects people who approach him to shake his hand. I know he got a bad rap for the police fundraiser telethon/scam a couple of years back but I do tend to think he had some morons working for him.

He certainly plays to the crowd and self-promotes but that doesn't make him a bad person. Just a little bit of a goofball.

You think this is a pointless thread perpetuated by overly sensitive, mildly imbalanced Patsfans who need to get a life?

Well, like I said before-

That's freaking AWESOME!!!

You couldn't have made me happier. Thank you.

If he's on the radio this year I hope the listeners give him constant grief. And if he's on All Access live at Gillette I hope fans yell GO TO NY or something to that effect. He can't stuff cake into his fat pink face and have it too.

and Pinky Beluga...if you are lurking this thread, here's a suggestion from a former backer and fan of yours....E S & D....have a rotten day...schmuck

I know there are many people who think to themselves, "Why do these thin-skinned losers continue to beat this anti-DeOssie drum?" I'm guessing those people have never seen the video clip. It had absolutely nothing to do with rooting for his son and his son's team. The apologists would have you believe that's all it was about. BS. He should have been rooting for his son and the Giants, as he was. If you watch the clip, he goes beyond rooting. He takes a steaming dump on the heads of the Patriots and their fans and is clearly enjoying that bowel movement. How any Patriot fan can watch that video and blithely say, "Hey, what's the big deal?" is beyond me.

"Even if my son wasn't a player on the giants I would pick the giants because they're a better team they deserve the game and kick their ass....

Just came back from a pregame show ( supposedly patriots pregame) and I had guys talking about how great this guy is and how great that guy is Welker, Gronkowski and Hernandez and those are great retrievers but how hard is it when you got JPP, Osi, tuck all up in your face...

I feel like am coming home here I am a giant in my heart, so glad my son in a football giant.. I struggle sometimes in New England but I know but I know I got a home in NY"

Its not even about his son, as he himself states.

Early this summer I had a chance to meet DeOssie at a charity event, but the situation wasn't right to bring up his Giants affiliation or his outward display of affection for them. From what I saw of him that day he's a pretty outgoing person, and I'm sure that when he has a few he probably can get pretty loud.

If I had talked to him that day I would have told him that I was behind him 100%. I've been a Pats fan since the first day, but if one of my kids was on that Giants team I would have been arm-in-arm with DeOssie in Giants blue, yelling and rooting for our sons' team.

Sorry, but blood is thicker than any sports team colors, even those of my beloved Pats.

I cannot even fathom how people completely miss the point still

No one cares about him rooting for his son, it was him"struggling" etc... In the place he makes a living off of pats fans

He has a favorite team and it's not ours. OK, what else we got? He's a good analyst and that's all that matters unless you all want homers at every position.

its clear you have a firm grasp of the situation.

I would head for the bomb shelter of I were you.

It's hard for him up here :bricks:

Please, Steve, go to NYC and and get your redfaced act on TV down there. That way we won't even know you exist and you can be where you want to be.

I doubt it. WEEI's first Patriots Monday with BB is this week. If he and Smelly are there things will be back to normal and all will be forgiven. He's such as douche.
