What you said was "there's no way that he makes the team," and you.were.wrong...yet now you come back here to "point out your expertise?"

It's funny that you weren't complaining when Moore's first 2 games this year were pretty good, or when he held Larry Fitz in check. You also weren't complaining last week when some of the beat writers lauded his good game again vs. the Rams.

FWIW---if Moore had played in only one more regular season game, he'd never be eligible for the practice squad again, and that's probably the closest thing to the truth here.

Moore played in almost 1/2 the defensive snaps this year, and I don't recall his play "regressing" as you say. He wasn't all the great to begin with, but he was at least servicable. We saw guys like Arrington, Chung, and even McCourty getting picked on regularly. Besides the blown coverage of the safety help, vs. Denver and their #1 WR in Thomas, Moore didn't look any worse than any of the other CB's, that's for sure.

According to Mike Reiss, this is what is up:

Moore has served as the primary nickel back since the second week of the season, and has played 43 percent of the defensive snaps. His body of work, from this perspective, didn't scream out that he was in danger of being cut.

While Moore isn't a huge factor on special teams, that he'd be replaced by a journeyman special teamer who is unlikely to factor into the defensive mix (Derrick Martin) reflects the view of the coaching staff that he had hit his plateau as a defender, or that the ceiling for his development was low.

Why else would the Patriots be willing to lose a durable player who has logged 43 percent of the defensive snaps?

It's possible that the Patriots are playing some odds here. Moore could still return on the practice squad this season and even in 2013 (if he's not claimed by another team). Had he played one more regular-season game, Moore's future practice squad eligibility would have been affected.

In that case, the Patriots could have the best of both worlds -- addressing what they apparently view as an immediate need with Martin special-teams wise, while still keeping Moore around on the practice squad to add depth at cornerback."

eh, cole didnt look too bad in nickel/dime situations when he was playing...and hes a core special teamer

derrick martin isnt a very good db, but hes a solid special teamer...which may allow cole to take over a larger defensive role.

arrington is meh but he isnt going anywhere.

chung and gregory may be back after the bye, which allows mccourty to slide back to CB....though personally prefer mccourty at safety to both of them...i also prefer him at CB over arrington.

We still have time to see him hit the practice field, but I'm not holding my breath.

The Pryor situation is a shame, because he may have actually been a halfway decent rotational interior presence on passing downs.

You can't make the club from the tub, as the saying goes.

I'm not writing off Pryor just yet, but I will soon.

I said that "Moore will make the team." Did he? Yes...

I said that he'd make a pleasant contribution...Did he? Yes...he played in almost 1/2 of the snaps in the first 1/2 of the season, and also looked good in a few games doing it.

There's also the whole "Larry Fitzgerald" issue too. 1 catch and 4 yards.


I have absolutely not one single reason to "eat crow."

Apparently, you aren't much for actually building a team.

If someone who has mediocre talent is going to ruin their practice squad eligibility by playing in the next game, and you wish to keep them around for practice squad + future purposes, then it's a fine move.

No one said that "he was good." Never once. I said that he deserved another year here in our system, which was a fine statement to make.

I said that he'd make the team and have some pleasant contribution, which has happened considering that he played in 43% of our 2012 snaps so far.

For a player who is 22 yrs old and they may see as a future backup down the line (or even depth here later in the year), Belichick's management of the roster is just fine with this move.

They cut him 2x last year, and he still led all of our CB's in passes defended in last year's postseason, so I'm am totally missing your point.

How ironic is it that Fanane is drawing some looks now? What a crock..I hope they recover most of their money from him.

Next year we'll see more talent in the interior game, this year we may be calling on old G.Warren yet again, which is actually fine with me.

MoLewisRocks stated in another thread (I can't remember which one) the New England Patriots organization had 25 days to file a grievance with the NFLPA. I'm not sure whether one was ever filed.

It very well could be as simple as that.

My sticking up for Moore to make the team was based on the fact that he was an end of roster player in the late 40's/early 50's, nothing more.

I liked keeping him to fill out the roster, and that was based on a few reasons:

1. His youth at age 22

2. The fact that I thought he deserved another year after what we saw in the postseason last year

3. His versatility to play in outside CB, slot CB, and even safety. He also played on some special teams units

4. Most of all---the thought that he was a hard worker who could give us some depth at the back end of the roster

I think that you may be right that he basically reached the height of his ceiling. There is also the chance though that Belichick factored in his practice squad eligibility and decided to take a gamble towards keeping him on our practice squad. Considering that our practice squad players contribute nicely in prep work and situational work throughout the week, I would consider it a fine move if that is the case.

If he simply reached his ceiling and they felt the position could be improved by Derrick Martin off the streets, then more power to both of them, and I hope that it works out for everyone involved.
