Stephen Gostkowski expected to be franchise tagged

That makes Trey top d end on market he is getting PAID.
I wouldn't mind Donte Fowler

I think that report is rather flawed ... Schefter kind of ripped that
off of Reiss who Tweeted if any Patriot was tagged it would be Ghost.

Nick Foles is really going to be tagged?

There you have it, folks. Literally all 5 of the guys ranked above or near Flowers will be tagged. Flowers could very well be the #1 DE on the market. From most indications, the Patriots do not believe in paying that type of money for the position while many other teams do.

Reiss speculates, just thinking out loud, and Schefter copies him, and somehow it ends up being an "expectation." SMH.

I don't get needing to franchise Gosk.

What's the figure? Can't they work out a contract at that rate?

I read somewhere here that Gost would be making the same 5 mil that he made last year.

It seems like many players don't like to be franchised, so a kicker could be a good choice. Is there any position that would be less than 5 mil?

Really nothing to lose except the tag itself and they weren't using it on Brown or Flowers given those numbers.

You keep Gost at similar aav without investing long-term in a kicker who is getting older.

In any case, the "news" or speculation is that Flowers won't get a tag, and that Brown won't get a tag.

Gostkowski may or may not get a tag. There is no biggie either way. Gostkowski will play for the patriots in 2019 and likely also in 2020 (similar to the situation that we had with Vinatieri).

Weiss expects the patriots to sign a long-term deal with Gost (3 years?). The issue is whether that contract is completed before March 13 or after. The effect on the cap is not huge. The patriots could move some to 2020 and 2021 if they sign a contract.

Schefter’s one of the few guys who actually seems to have sources, so it won’t surprise me if he sourced this on his own.

Colts beat writers claim Colts are going to come hard at Trey Flowers.

And some of those sources don't even violate HIPAA laws
