what the hell is this ? the media is really going after this more than steroid abuse and all.

Consider the source. I saw "Florio" on the byline of the linked article, shook my head, and looked away.

"The possibility exists . . ."

Other usages of that phrase include:

The possibility exists that Mike Florio lit squirrels on fire as a child.
The possibility exists that Mike Florio will spontaneously combust tomorrow.
The possibility exists that Mike Florio likes "it" the Osi Umenyiora way.
etc.

Re: Spygate Could Spark Espionage Investigation ?

Please. This is an author attempting to fit a round peg into a square hole when asked what interest the federal government could have in taping a walk-through to give the alleged violation a weighty consequence.

With all the heat the DOJ has on it right now, does it really want to take up a dicey criminal prosecution of a football coach based on a crack head's statement? The law is not even close to clear that this is even possible, but it makes for good drama.

Re: Spygate Could Spark Espionage Investigation ?

Thankfully, Floria is just saying he thinks it could be considered from a theoretical legal standpoint, not that it would.

Re: Spygate Could Spark Espionage Investigation ?

first of all, this is nonsense and we are all (myself included) foolish for wasting our time worrying about it.

in addition, heh heh, we should all be lawyers, that's where the money is. as far as i know, what constitutes a "trade secret" is relatively loosely defined, the infringment of which would have to be tied directly and specifically to some monetary benefit or loss. so, in this case, someone (the Rams organization) would have to show specific harm as a result of the patriots' illicit foreknowledge of a specific play in a specific situation. i'm sure that there are a bunch of lawyers who could make a nice meal out of that, but i don't think it goes anywhere in this case.

We waste our time worrying about a lot of foolish nonsense around here, haha. How else are we supposed to fill the days now that the season is over and the draft is still months away?

Re: Spygate Could Spark Espionage Investigation ?

And Belichick could be thrown into prison at Guatanimo Bay as a Enemy Combatant too. Let's get real.

i think the pats welcome a complete investigation. i doubt the nfl does.

that's an interesting point and one that i hadn't heard before. you might be onto something there. if there is nothing more to tell about the patriots (and, that increasingly seems to be the truth), then any investigation would only serve to expose the extent of cheating by other teams.

Re: Spygate Could Spark Espionage Investigation ?

This whole Spygate nonsense was pure bull from the start...I read some of the most moronic, ridiculous "what-if-then" assertions from media hacks country wide and just couldn't get why they were so screwy....NOW it's obvious....everyone knew the Patriots were going to be good this season, just as the never ending columns of "Randy WILL BE a cancer!!!!" blabberations poured non-stop all pre-season.My perspective as a Patriots fan and my knowledge of the team blinded me to the one obvious motivation...overwhelming jealousy turned into blind raging hatred by agenda driven media whores who stooped to whatever gutter level it took to rip, tear, slander, libel ,besmirch and besmear the Patriots organization and ,by default (which they moronically never took into consideration), this long suffering, loyal and honest fanbase of which I've been a part for over 50 years.

Now that they finally got the satisfaction they craved to soothe their maniacal and pathological hatred, they have left themselves, all of them, backed into a corner. The ESPN hatroids, the reprehensible near mongoloidal Tom Jacksons, the Cowardbrooks...all of them...NOW they have to answer for ANYTHING that ANY TEAM does in the future, no matter how slight, meaningless or insignificant.

I think the Pats want it to go away. You can't disprove a rumor like this. Even if no evidence is found, they will be considered guilty in quite a few people's eyes. I think they would just rather have Goodell and Specter meet with Walsh and have them not get any credible evidence and be done with it.

Jeff Fischer asks "Can we do that?"

If it comes to what baseball is experiencing and BB is called to testify I have a feeling that Mangini won't be as tight lipped as Pettitte has been so far to Roger

nor belichick toward mangini.

I've got a feeling that Goodell will have to come up with very good story to sell to the Hon. Arlen Specter to keep Congress from launching any investigative action. However, this better not turn out into some witch hunt to nail only New England to the cross, when other teams may have had similar practices going on. And I'd love to see whether the NFL actually had specific rules on videotaping of opponents prior to 2006 that the Patriots could have broken. Even the Spygate issue from last September hinges on an obscure subarticle of a bylaw that a lot of people don't even know. And it would be nice to hear whether the Patriots actually have shot any illegal videotape and if so, how much. Especially when it turns out that they haven't, or that they haven't broken any actual NFL rules, except that other teams coaches have to deal with the fact that have been outsmarted by the Patriots (again).

Re: Spygate Could Spark Espionage Investigation ?

SpyGate will be over by the end of this month.

Well, Goodell is at it again. They are giving Walsh indemnity to say whatever the freak he wants.

If I'm Kraft, I tell Rog, go eff yourself.

Walsh will tell them whatever they want to hear as long as they give him 1 million dollar for it. I guess his golf career doesn't go well. What a way to pick up another endorsement from NFL.!

did somebody see him collecting golf ball for living in Hawaii.? The funny thing here is he had 4 years to come clean but he didn't. He decides to come clean now.?

he really wants to change his heart.! WOW, what a fuker.! Way to go Walsh.!

If he is given immunity, then are there any repercussions if he lies? It just seems that in the interviews of him that I have read, he wants attention and is attempting to almost sell his story.
