with his knee condition, will a week really make a difference?

What is his knee condition ? His knee got cleaned up almost a month ago and the team was careful with bringing him back step by step to avoid a setback. If he is ready he is ready.

the injury happened years ago and draining the problematic knee was maintenance that he will need to do once in a while...and is not a case of a recent injury. That's my take on the situation.

It's a disturbing situation however you consider it right out of the chute for a rookie RB who will be in for a lot of pounding. This kid was drafted to be a workhorse. I wonder if he ever will play a full season.

Sounds like he went to my auto mechanic. I swear, I drop the truck off to get the tires rotated, go back to pick it up, and the conversation always starts with, "while we were in there ..." In where? The tires are on the outside, aren't they?

Corey Dillon probably lost out on the hall of fame because he played on an injury a year the team had zero depth.

Every injury is different. I had a couple injuries to my left knee back in college (torn PCL, variety of sprains, meniscus damage, etc), and I'm totally fine over a decade later. I still walk slackline, play pickup soccer, go to a parkour gym -- the list goes on. I'm truly sorry to hear about your situation, but you can't just assume that because you've had a terrible time with recovery, that so will everyone else. Let's hope Michel has a strong career and a healthy life post-football.

The only thing you mentioned that is a cuase for concern long term is the meniscus and that can vary from no big deal to major. I have a massive cartilage defect from a patellar dislocation. Bone on cartilage that will cause severe arthritis in short time and needing a replacement. Sony was said to have had bone on bone. Totally different and much more aligned with my issue. You can't fix that with current tech unless you replace the knee. Unless he had a severe sprain, the drain was likely from his old injury causing reoccurring issues. This will be a problem for his entire career.

Gronk in 2012 was a calculated risk at the start of the playoffs, so it isn't comparable. For the most part, mid- and early-season injuries are treated more conservatively, so I'd expect the same here.
