Belichick is playing with fire here. Moss is the last guy in the world you wanna tick off. He's one of those guys like Dennis Rodman or Artest, that are usually harmless and introverted, but if you trigger them or stimulate them in the slightest of fashions, it can spiral out of control and ultimately rip a franchise apart. I don't know what's truly going on here, but I would let Moss do whatever he wants...come late once in a while, skip practices, have his own recliner, etc. We'd be a 6-10 without Moss this year.

So you advocate setting double standards to keep a team together? Any coach worth his pay check doesn't fear reputations, ability or cliques.

Like previously said, everyone else got there on time. Belichick has set standards for the players to adhere too and if a coach lets it slide he loses control. When you lose control you create complacency and when you have no control plus half ***ed players the only way is down. Your seeing that now so Belichick has acted. You plan for the weather and leave earlier, a simple action which makes it all the worse in Belichicks eyes.

Wow, that might be the most ridiculous post I've ever read on this board. For all the kicks you get out of calling others pathetic, I can infer from this post that you're a pretty sad and miserable human being. Nobody has the right to say how someone else 'should' handle their grief over the death of a family member, and Seymour the all pro, borderline HOF NFL defensive lineman has infinitely more 'stones' than MoLewisRocks, the anonymous, random internet poster who has probably accomplished nothing particularly remarkable in his life.

I never said anything about how anyone should handle their grief, just how they should handle facing the consequence for failing to report as previously agreed.

On the Internet it takes no courage to question how a person deals with the loss of a loved one.

The event in question took place in 2004. The Pats extended Seymour in 2006. If the Patriots thought that Seymour had no stones, why did they extend Seymour in 2006??? Are you really contending that the Patriots took close to five years to get rid of a player that they were not happy with in 2004??

That's not what I questioned. I questioned how he dealt with the consequences of failing to report back as previously agreed. I believe one of the Admins has written on that extensively in the past...

Your an idiot..sorry but someone has to say it....What a Heartless human being!

Lot of people have reading comprehension issues in this thread. Doesn't really surprise me you were one of them.

Interesting divide. I think I can tell the people here who make excuses after excuses for being late and tardy and those who work to ensure it doesn't happen in the first place. Clearly, BB has a set standard, and those guys knew it. They failed to meet it. End of story.

I suppose it's difficult for people to understand that in the age where responsibility is considered optional for adulthood.

Tell me, are the people in the midwest who were late because of storms that were leaving 15 foot high drifts just slackers?

Was our storm even remotely bad? Heck, most people will make sure to leave HOURS ahead of time to see a Pats game in a snow storm but if it's work they don't care being late. The storm clearly wasn't too bad since everyone else on the team managed to get their in time.

The snow "storm" we had wasn't anything, it's normal. If you can't plan to leave extra early for a snow storm I'd suggest you move to Florida. Experience a Hurricane and tell me you think a snow storm is a big deal.

Moss and Brady live in Lincoln RI. Brady had a baby and made it in on time. Moss didn't...end of story.

I lived in Florida for more than 15 years. I've experienced hurricanes. Generally speaking, a snow storm is far more dangerous to drive in than low strength hurricanes, because of the slipperiness of the roads. As for the "everyone else on the team", most storms leading to tardiness feature some people getting to work on time and others being unable to do so. Rarely will it be every person showing up late.

For everyone who is against what BB did today, what if you were the CEO of a company and had an important meeting this morning and 48 of your employees were on time and 4 were late, how are you going to feel towards the 4 that were late? You are going to be disappointed and frustrated with them and that they let the other 48 of your employees and yourself who got there on time down. Thats how BB felt and he handled it the way he thought was best.

This is only an issue because of the losing. This is "Wag the Dog" stuff to show us fans the Boss means business. It's like when they round up a couple of illegal aliens at the border to show us they are cracking down on illegals.

Bill and the guys will laugh and joke about it over Starbucks tomorrow.

Thanks. Until this post, I wasn't sure who was going to go the farthest in losing their minds trying to defend Belichick on this. You're now clearly in the lead. If you think navigation aids can magically cure each and every weather-related tardiness, there's a psychiatrist just waiting for your business.

As for the military, let's just say that I've had enough experience there to know better than buy that argument of yours.

Edit: Just something I saw on another site:

Patriots Planet - New England Patriots Forums and Message Boards - View Single Post - Curran: Belichick throws the challenge flag

So, yeah.... weather was apparently a legitimate factor.

Frankly, Deus, I would like to see you bring a little more in the way of a substantive response rather than attempt to say I must being losing my mind to disagree with your conclusion on the subject. If that is the case, the board has become an asylum because I see few jumping to your defense. The simple response is find some management principle that says making rules and enforcing them selectively is an ingredient in a succesful enterprise. I don't make this argument out of love of Belichick, it's called Management 101 and you apparently missed that course.

Your premise appears to be there is one route in MA to travel from Point X to Foxboro, and if you live in another town and the one road is blocked, you just cannot get there from here. Interesting notion, but contradicted by every map I have looked at while living in the state for 20 years or so. Civil engineers have weird concepts in town planning about establishing alternate paths. And there are accidents in bad weather? Stop the presses. That is a revelation, and apparently a happenstance you wouldn't factor in while planning how to get to work the next day. I believe we should address all variables in planning, not just one, otherwise we live in your uncertain world and cannot predict a result.

And here's a thought: people actually buy houses based on where they work. I know, just plain loco. If you buy a house that's inaccessible, that is not an excuse for not making it to work. Your choice, your problem. If you buy a house far from work, you have opted for a lengthy commute. Still your problem, not your boss's problem. Should Belichick make geographical exceptions based on that choice? Should he keep 50 people waiting and hold them late because of that choice? Let's hear your reasonable approach that won't punish the majority. Private sessions for the 4 who show up late?

And navigation aids give alternate routes. They tell you where the accidents are, and where not to travel as far as routes go. I didn't claim they are magical transporters, but if you have the luxury of high ends cars, and I suspect everyone in that group has that luxury, those tools certainly speed you on your way. The point being you have plenty of tools to find a best route, so you are rock stupid if you proceed blindly into the snow when the problems of weather are well documented.

And I have no clue what your military experience is, but I have plenty (almost two decades) and tardiness never was a problem in any military command I have been associated with. If you have different experience, then you probably also know the effect a laissez faire attitude has on good order and discipline, and what carving exceptions out for those who don't toe the line does to overall morale. If you don't, then you likely don't have real experience and are just throwing argument out there to support an untenable position.

24 pages because Belichick made an example of a couple of players on a discipline issue?

To send Moss home like that, it might hurt Moss more than other players, since he's the captain, playmaker, and really the one carrying the team this year not to mention he is one sensitive introverted person That's why I think it's playing with fire here. Let Moss do his thing and just let him float, he's lasted 12? years in the league at an elite level, he must be doing something right. Sending players home like that are for busts and rookies.

That's not the Patriot way ... he already get's Wednesdays off from practice on the field.

Yup ... the weather reports were made last night ... leave an hour early like the rest of us mortals.

Do you ever get tired of reaching?

The fact that he sent them home speaks volumes IMO. Ted Johnson said on the radio today that BB never sends players home for being late. It's usually a fine. Seems as though he is finally drawing a line in the sand. I couldnt be happier.

Discipline is discipline. I think the message is clear. After the lackluster loss against the Dolphins, I think that BB was just looking for an opportunity to make his position clear and he has done that. I hope that the players take it the right way and get the message to buckle down instead of to pout and act all pissed about it. The "Do your job" mantra has never been more apparent. If you show up late for your job, guess what, you're not doing your job.

Of all people Guyton?

A free agent who beat the odds ... if I was him I'm living at that hotel at the stadium the rest of the year.
