Sign the Beast XXXIV: Pats one of three teams interested in Terrance "Pot Roast" Knighton

Not gonna lie, I want Knighton on the team real bad. Envisioning Knighton and a resigned Wilfork, Jones and Sheard, Mayo Collins and Hightower up front. That group would be hard as hell to run on, could cover decently AND could smack your QB in the mouth.
I struggle to envision a scenario where we get both and I would not hate Wilfork returning *IF* we fail to land Knighton.

As a borderline career hall of famer, Wilfork is not as good as Knighton is today. Knighton is better against the run and can create a push up the middle that we haven't seen from Wilfork since the 2011 season.

I feel that the pair would be too redundant though, espeically with Siliga in a similar role. We'd basically have 3 NT's. Knighton/Easley would be a great combination of interior pressure and run stuffing ability, a move towards younger and more athletic, and a better outlook for the long term.

I'd give him 5-6 million per and a two year membership to the jelly of the month club...take it or leave it.

Any word on Ahtyba Rubin? I heard the Pats were inquiring and, even though he doesn't have as cool a nickname, should come much cheaper and with just as good a skill set.

Is there not some incentive for the Patriots to hold off on signing too many FA's, or at least expensive FA's, in the hopes of getting more compensatory picks? (Or am I blowing up the significance of that).

I think there's a limit of 4 comp picks that a team can get, most of which tend to occur in the lower rounds, so yes I think you're way overthinking this.

As we know, we're expecting a 3rd/4th for losing Talib last year, and will be expecting a 3rd for Revis in 2016, and while it's nice to have comp picks for lost players, you've got to try and replace that lost talent in the best way possible. I think we all know where the holes of the team are, so let's hope they are addressed.

And one thing I've learned from reading this board is, you have to save some money to sign the draft picks too!

Since Mayo won't re-do his deal to take a more reasonable cap hit until he can pass a physical later in the offseason, I'd think the money could be freed up from that avenue just fine.

  • I like Wilfork a lot. But, if he goes somewhere else we probably get a pick. Knighton is younger. And if the price is similar its time to move on. And about the draft, im not a expert but im reading that is a weak CB draft class. So i dont think its smart to replace a top 3 CB just to adress a need. I rather go to Butler and Browner and next year draft if its possible pick best talent there or use our #1 to adress the need. IMO we will have a great f7, ppl here are bashing our secondary but i think we have a decent group of young guys, and we have the best group of LB in the league. So maybe its just a thought I read that Collins was a good safety . McCourty and Collins( Hybrid S/LB), Sheard, Mayo, Hightower, Siliga maybe Knighton ... Im happy with this group. If we can add a DT and CB we are ready to go. We can easily draft a 1 RB, 2 OL, 1 DT and bunch of ST´s guys.

53 Players ( Bold players are locks) Im happy with this.
    • QB - 2 Brady**, Garoppolo - (=)
    • RB - 4 Bolden, James White, Gray, Blount, Gaffney, DRAFT #04.b - Vereen/ Ridley (-)
    • C - 1 Stork - (=)
    • G - 4 Wendell, Kline, Connoly***, DRAFT #2 - (+)
    • OT - 4 Vollmer, Solder**, Cannon, Cameron Fleming - (=)
    • WR - 6 Amendola**, Slater, Edelman, Lafell, DRAFT#03,b, Dobson, Tyms - (+)
    • TE - 4 Rob Gronkowski, Hoomanawanui, Wright, Develin - (=)
    • DE - 4 Ninkovich, Chandler Jones, Moore, DRAFT #06, Sheard - Ayers (+)
    • DT - 5 Chris Jones, Easley, Knighton***, DRAFT #03.a, Siliga - (+) - Wilfork/Branch
    • LB - 6 Collins, Hightower, Mayo, Jones, DRAFT#04.a/McCarthy*** - Casillas (=)
    • CB - 6 Ryan, Arrington**, Butler, Dennard,DRAFT #1 - Revis/Browner (-)
    • S - 4 Tavon Wilson, Ebner, Harmon, Chung, McCourty - (=)
    • P - 1 Allen - (=)
    • K - 1 Gostkowski** - (=)
    • LS 1- Ott (?)

Cap Space: $9,901,63 ( Connolly 2m/DRAFTS 2,5m / 1 FA DT 4m - Casillas/ 1LB FA McCarthy - Ridley/1 DE/OLB FA Sheard - Vereen) - (0.4m under cap) ** We can get more money from... Brady/Mayo/Arrington/Amendola/Gostkowski/Solder Use that money next year to sign Hightower and Jones. Wilfork, Ayers, Revis and Browner we will get comp picks...

I would like to see them add Knighton and VW, then the only aspect of the defense left to address is CB.

Why don't any of the sucky teams want him? Pats, Hawks and Ravens are a strange grouping.

A head coach texted me in regards to Terrance "Pot Roast" Knighton. "Teams afraid to sign him because he's out of shape" So, there's that.

He couldn't even make it to his big contract without letting himself go. I can't imagine that $6M from the Raiders is on the table anymore after they got Dan Williams, so I'm not even sure he gets that much now.

  • I like Wilfork a lot. But, if he goes somewhere else we probably get a pick. Knighton is younger. And if the price is similar its time to move on.

Signing Knighton would easily negate the Wilfork comp pick so don't let that affect your judgement about bringing VW back if he shows the best value/most realistic option.

One year prove it deal with weight clauses? Do it Bill.

I'm fine with giving him the 8.5m VW got last season in similar structure.

VW 100% earned the hell out of his contract because of the type of person he is and the work ethic he had.

Knighton can do all of that, but if he doesn't want to earn it then don't give it to him, simple as that.

Knighton was a big part of the broncos run defense. I hope we put an offer at least. If we can improve our run defense it would be huge. Our secondary will be what it is.

Just great. At this point we will sign scraps on the dl.

Bring back Wilfork.

You set yourself up for disappointment, young padawan.

WTF I wish we could've gotten Knighton for that much

1 year/$4 million

Crap, a 1yr/4m deal is amazing. That's a steal for Washington.

Give me Fairley and either Wilfork, Branch or Bryant and call it a day at DT.
