Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

Here's Arnold's sumup at the start of this morning's show.
Given that WEEI mgt had neutered him yesterday, he showed tremendous class and professionalism.
WEEI's Arnold discusses diminished role - The Buzz - Boston.com sports news

Arnold said he would be sliding into a jack-of-all trades role, which would include doing play by play on Celtics games when Sean Grande had college hockey commitments, filling in for Dave O'Brien 25-30 times this season on Red Sox broadcasts (O'Brien misses Wednesday games because of his ESPN commitment), serving as "the designated vacation fill-in host" for about 100 days a year, and hosting weekend program similar to its popular "NFL Sunday" show during Patriots season.

So after twenty years of service, according to this, Arnold is going to be passed around like a b1tch.

He should have seen this coming, Eddie Andelman got the ouster years ago also.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

WEEI needs to find an FM feed. Part of their problem (part) is that they're on AM still, while the Hub is on FM.

Holley is the only person on EEI that i like to listen to, so this news sucks. He's the only option in the midday line-up on any station. Gresh is absolutley intolerable to me.

Dale Arnold is a panzi. He reminds of that juvenile little boy who would talk tough when his friends were around. He's a dweeb of monumental porportions. I remember him saying he wasn't sure if Derek Jeter was a Hall of Famer. Tool!

Ordway so sucks. He knows nothing about sports. I love that his ratings are tanking.

Where's Pete Sheppard?

You're right. I heard him this morning, also. Afterward, I sent him a complimentary e-mail, which I had no intention of doing until I heard him. I usually agreed with Dale, but not always, and found him irritating at times. However, he always conducted himself, I thought, in a largely dignified manner. I'll miss him, particularly when paired with Holley. He wasn't the best host I've ever heard, but when compared with others (particularly the two neanderthal pigs on that station from 6:00-10:00), he deserved better.

Good take by Dale ... it's like 50/50 here who like him and those that don't.

I like him for what he gathers ... Dale is a great listener.

He listens to what the caller has to say and then offers his opinion ... listening is a lost art.

Dale encourages callers to call in with an honest opinion - callers were encouraged not discouraged.

Thanks Dale ... a heartfelt thanks for all the years at WEEI.

You helped make being on the road a whole lot easier.

You never stuck with the theme of the day or screened calls to fit your agenda like others there did.

You were the perfect transducer between the caller and the listener ... perfection.

Delightful - Articulate - Learned - Entertainer

Affable - Refreshing - Noted - Outstanding - Laudable - Dedicated

I figure I owed you that for all the years you were the best you could be.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

To echo what many have said, I am going to miss D&H. They were, to me, what I look for in sports talk. Pretty level headed and they let their callers have a say for the most part. They didn't berate their callers, they did not pander to their guests, and they did not "do the show before the show" to steal from Dale. It wasn't contrived. I will look forward to giving O and Holley a shot. I used to like Big O back in the late 90's early 2000's. Maybe the consistency of one partner will help him.

I do not understand the hate for Mutansky. He is a relative unknown in the market. He has been a long time weekender and fill-in host. To me, he is getting the same treatment David Amendolara (sp?) received in his early time at 98.5. Now a lot of people like him but a year and a half ago? People were all over him because he wasn't from here.

One thing WEEI gains in drive time is someone who can talk NBA with Glenn. Holley also has a relationship with BB for Patriots season. Neither are big hockey talkers and, as a prerequisite, they can both discuss baseball. In the mid-day slot, with Mut, you get a guy who can talk a little bit about a lot of things, just like Holley can. He has a college sports background as well. I'm not wild about Lou, but let's see if that is indeed the case.

One biproduct of this move, I hope, is less Mustard and Johnson on the weekends. With Dale doing a weekly Sunday morning show, and Red Sox season right around the corner, one can only hope that Mustard and Johnson go the way of the dodo.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

Please let Dennis & Callahan be next to hit the meat grinder.

T&R have grown on me actually. Their humor is still frat boy but it does make me feel young at times.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

Yeah, one of the reasons i don't bother listening any longer, the commercials. I don't know if its still the same but it seemed (especially on the big show) you'd get 12 minutes of talk then 15 minutes worth of commercials.

This message was brought to you by PatsFans and the Ad Council.

...

It's been years since I stopped listening to sports radio on a daily basis. I actually liked The Big Show back when Pete the Meat was still on there. Loved whenever they bagged on him for being such a Brady homer. They still had people shouting over each other all the time but I enjoyed the show. I actually don't hate Ordway like most people do, but I got annoyed that he would take a vacation every two weeks. Must be nice.

Hated, HATED Dale & Neumy, both annoying radio voices, especially Neumeier. Holley is good, much more tolerable, still don't like Arnold. Of course I also find it annoying when I tune in and hear hockey talk but that's my problem. At least Arnold doesn't pretend the Bruins don't exist (as much as I wish he would), so I give him that.

There is no morning show that is listenable. If I wanted what Dennis & Callahan offers up every morning, I'd tune in to Rush Limbaugh. If I wanted what Toucher & Rich offers up every morning, I'd tune in to Howard Stern.

I don't listen much to Sports Hub, but I can say that I also can't stand Mazz, his opinions or his voice. I have no problem with Zolak. Gresh seems like a ******* moron to me.

If you pointed a gun to my head and forced me to pick a show to listen to, it'd be Big Show with the Big O. But if it includes 15 minutes of commercials after 8 minutes of talk like the current format, I'll choose the bullet.

Absolutely ... freaking Yankee fan time when they are working.

I don't dislike D & C ... but I don't like the rants and single topic format they like so much. They are a downer when I'm looking for an upper or at least something moderate. I've actually grown quite fond of simply listening to the news, weather and traffic on the "3's" most mornings.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

Outside of Patriots Monday, Dale and Holley was the only WEEI show that I listened to. I guess it's the HUB for me.

+1. Holly with that moron Ordway is such a waste of talent. Outside of
D&H there wasn't anything to tune to WEEI for.

Eddie Andelman got what he deserved because he was seeking out other deals with other stations. Dale got jobbed.

People looking for job security into their 50's-60's probably shouldn't make radio broadcasting a career choice.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

Merloni is a one-trick pony? That's one more trick than Felger, Mazz and Gresch combined.

98.5 is, perhaps, the worst sports radio station on the east coast. It has one show worth listening to, and that show doesn't start until 6 pm.

Seriously? I guess that's why we have choices. Both station's 6PM shows are putrid. Otherwise 98.5 sweeps the rest.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

Zo - Gresh - Mazz - Felger .... wow ... be still my beating heart.:bricks::bricks::bricks:

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

I used to listen to WEEI religiously... On the way to work, at work, and on the way home, and if I was out and about driving at night.

I have since switched to Toucher and Rich in the morning. Too funny to not tune in. D&C just got too stale.

Also switched to Felger and Mazz on the way home. Tony Mazz can get annoying but I do enjoy Felger even though he's a lunatic.

I will also switch between DA and Mikey Adams. Mikey Adams is just too funny and likeable to abandon altogether.

but Dale and Holley was the only show WEEI had kept me intrested in, and the big show is just intolerable. Ordway sucks, the co-hosts suck. Even the whiner line is old and stale.

I dont understand why WEEI would cut the only show that is worth listening to, but then again.. its not hard to beat Gresh and Zolak, I can't stand those guys.

you think eei's bad during the day. they run espn radio at night and they've got some doofus jet/met/laker/knick fan, jason smith, with the squeakiest voice railing on from somewhere out in left field. his opinions are so whacked he makes felger and mazz sound normal.

Been listening to EEI for years, and this is my sentiment.. except cannot listen to the afternoon slot unless Tom Curran, Max, Troy or sometimes De Ossie or Smerlas is on... but more often than not, the only slots I listen to happen before 2:00 PM..

This is the beginning of the end for EEI and some might say they are throwing in the towel.. followed Gresch when he was in RI, and he was as terrible then as he is now.. never liked Zo as a player or as a sports show host.

Maybe what will happen is a bigger shake up, and someone will see the light to bring on some significant change to make it some really good sports talk.. pretty disalusioned with the current product and the proposed changes.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

Per T&R some people claiming to have access to Pete Shepard's facebook are sending out emails supposedly containing comments from Pete in which he states he's going to drop bombs on the way things are being done in the Boston media market if he doesn't get some answers by Monday Feb 21st.
Interesting!!
Wonder if Pete will clarify exactly why Jon Meterparel has been handed 2 announcing gigs when he has zero talent for it. I have my theories as to why Jason Wolfe and Julie Kahn hired Jon Meterparel when he has no talent but I'd love for someone to confirm my theory.
