Serious question: have the Jests developed a couple of good lines?

Both of their lines did pretty well against our guys. Their D Line has some young players that are getting praise in the media, and along the O Line their cast offs seems to have turned things around, at least according to Mayock on Thursday night. Wilfork in particular seemed to get handled better than I've seen him handled in a long time. So what gives here? Have they actually accomplished something?

I know just tee'ing this question up is an invitation for a lot of bad humor, which is fine, but I'm genuinely a little concerned.

The way Ducasse started, I thought he'd be gone by now...he looked pretty good last night.

D-line is very good against the run and will get better.

I was impressed with their run blocking last night.

I was thinking the exact same thing, Ducasse did very well against Wilfork and the D-line was very strong, I also think DeMario Davis is going to become an outstanding linebacker.

They have a very good defensive line. Which is key for them because their back seven are mediocre. They are going to have to get a lot of pressure on opposing QBs to stop passing all over their secondary. Their run defense may be the best in the league after shutting down two 1,200 plus RBs in a row to start the season. Doug Martin only did slightly better than Ridley vs. them.

I think their o-line is good, but not great. Ducasse isn't as good as he looked on Thursday even though he has finally turned into a decent guard. I think Wilfork is injured and the Pats are not letting on. But the Pats only rushed four all night and at times they got a lot of pressure on Smith on Thursday. It wasn't as consistent as we would like, but it was there.

Face it, the Jets have some talented physical players. Another reason I hope they finish closer to 8-8 than 2-14. Don't want them stockpiling talent in case they sign a competent FA QB some day.

They are pretty good. But the Jets still suck.

Yup. They invested a lot of first round picks on both lines.

Mangold, Ferguson, Wilkerson, Richardson.

Between BB's full respect for every NFL team, and my knowing that to beat on a team when its down is an always dangerous proposition (you know like 9/11), my position has always been to lay off the JETS--a team which is really never bad anyway, and always set to kick your ass.

Besides it seems kind of sophmoric to bully some specific team.

Before the Pats first offensive play.....both lines were standing across from each other and the Jets D line looked huge next to our guys. Right then I knew the ground game was in trouble.
Personally, I thought the Jets lines out played NE's and it took +4 turnovers for NE to squeak out a 3 point win

Their offensive line might be mildly surprising, but they still gave up four sacks Thursday night. Their defensive line (and defense overall) always has been good under Wrecks. That's his area of knowledge, and they've devoted some draft capital to d-line in particular. If the Green Beans had a competent quarterback, they'd be an average team.

Well, you can't have it both ways. If the quarterback is incompetent as you say (a 2-game rookie) then is it any wonder that he was sacked 4 times?--esp given the kind of scrambling qb he is

Go ahead and blame the sacks on the rookie, I don't care. But it's still the O-line's job to keep people off his back.

It wasn't as if the Pats rushers were busting through the O line. Smith lingered too long in the pocket and wasn't decisive. He clearly was under instructions not to leave the pocket...no matter what. As far as the sacks go, I thank the secondary coverage for denying Smith his first read.

He moved around a fair amount from what I saw and had some decent scrambles. If anything, the Pats' rush strategy was same as vs. the Bills -- keep him in the pocket and force him to beat you with his arm.

The kid's still elusive and our guys had to run him down for the sacks. You need to give the Pats some credit.

the jet o-line set a pretty decent pocket and forced a lot of rush to the outside

2-3 of the sacks were good coverage, smith was a little slow on his progressions and didn't just get rid of the ball....pats sustained the rush well and got to him

gotta give props to the pass coverage....but i thought their o-line run blocked very well, and didn't do half bad on the pass block.....better than i expected out of their o-line for sure

The Pats rushed 4 all night and played a lot of gap protection to keep Smith in the pocket. And when they started doing stunts the O-Line didn't look that great.

9 sacks in 2 games here and we'd be calling for people's heads. And they're avg 3.6 yards a carry on the run. it would be 3.0 without Smith scrambles.

They are a good line. But not OMG the Jets have a great line! Average to slightly above.

The D-line has a chance to be dominant but they have zero pass-rushers on it. They are going to have to bring more than 4 to get pressure. But they are going to be a ***** to run against.

I was actually more impressed with their younger linebacker Davis.

They still don't have any safeties that can cover and teams are exploiting Cromartie on plays where he does anything but cover deep. Their 1 INT this year was basically a punt by Freeman into Landry's arms.

I'm in agreement with Scrizz's thoughts. The Patriots basically sat back and waited to see what Smith would do for a half. Then, the Patriots wised up and took the leash of Jones and Ninkovich. I don't consider a team giving up 9 sacks in two games as being a great line. Improved perhaps, good no.
