I'm guessing Coughlin will most likely get to the HOF with 2 SB victories, especially the fact that they both came against Belichick + the huge underdogs of the 2007 undefeated season.

As far as having 6 rings, all 6 games were within four points, so 4/6 is pretty good, all things considered. We certainly could've lost another game or two in terms of SBs.

Agree on 4/6 being fine considering the point differential. In fact, I believe we have our total differential is less than six points in all six SBs combined, so that solves that.

I've always been regretful that our losses were to Manning, Coughlin, and the Giants, who simply were not worthy of having two rings. Particularly the 2011 team but to some degree the 2007 team vastly underachieved at certain points during their championship seasons, while the whole Eli era is defined by two rings in between lots of failure and underachieving. They didn't even make it to a third NFCCG let alone SB and were often mediocre at best. I've always rooted for teams that "deserve" a championship based on sustained excellence and taking some bad beats before they get there. To think the Giants in the last decade were in the same stratosphere as the Patriots or even near the same level as teams like the Steelers, Packers, or even Colts and Seahawks is laughable. Eli and Coughlin do no deserve to be in the HoF. They did not dominate in any way during this era but just happened to click at the right time, boosted by a tremendous pass rush and a lot of luck.

Coughlin will get into the HOF, and it will be deserved, not just for his 2 SB wins in NY, but also for what he accomplished with the expansion Jaguars.

While I do agree that Coughlin doesn't deserve to be a HOFer (and Eli doesn't deserve to be in the 2nd tier of QBs), the reality is that he'll likely end up making it at some point. Hell, there were people making a strong case for Bill Cowher last year when he was nominated, so that tells me all I need to know.

2 SB wins likely does it, although like you said--it's probably not deserved.

Practically forgot about the expansion Jags.

I think he makes it, although it may take him awhile once nominated.

Coughlin was a very good coach from the Parcells coaching tree, but at 69 he might choose to do something besides continue his marriage to the NFL..

You miss the playoffs 6 out of 7 years in the crap bag division, it really doesn't matter what else you did.

Chuck Noll didn't even get that kind or slack.

I do not contest that, he was a pretty good coach though.. most teams miss the play offs. Consider the Bills, Jets or Dolphins..

coughlin is a great coach. belichick will tell you that. his problem was his QB wasn't consistent. he was basically married to eli, who af times was one of the most clutch QBs in nfl history. at other times he was down right awful.

watch mcdaniels get some considersatin from the giants

Mcdaniels,Payton,Mcdermit,Patricia,Shula,Gase.
This has to be the number 1 job available I easily could see Mcdaniels going there but I have a feeling they go defense and Mcdermit and Patrica are the two main candidates at the end.

Oh, Coughlin was a really good coach. What he did in Jacksonville alone proves that.

Most teams do miss the playoffs. Most teams don't miss the playoffs 6 out of 7 years, unless you're Buffalo. And it's not like they've had the same coach there the whole time, either.

Tom Coughlin should go out on his terms. He deserves that. His time has passed. There haven't been any innovations from the Giants in the last few years, and his mistakes in clock management with Eli signals that it's time to move on.

He'll get lots of accolades from the old guard, including his friend Bill Belichick.

Yep. Even Noll needed to fire his defensive staff because he and the team were sliding.
