It is much harder to take a punch than to give one.

Making big hits does not make you tough, taking big hits and getting up everytime is tough. Making hits is the easy part. Don't get me wrong because anyone who makes it to the NFL is the definition of tough, but it is much harder to take a punch than to give one.

In my opinion the QB position is the most underated positions in regards to toughness in the NFL. They are the toughest players, mentally and physically. Running backs are probably the second toughest after that. Those guys get hit by 3 -5 guys on every run they make.

On almost every pass play you have 4-7 250 lbs to 320 lbs guys charging at you full speed with the intention of running you right into the dirt. At the same time the QB has his eyes down field, is stationary and in a completely unprotected and vulnerable position. They are in no position to defend them selves, yet they will stand there and make a through knowing that they are about to get flattened.

Defensive players are widely regarded to be the toughest players because they lay out hard hits. Well most of those hard hits come when the offensive player is in a vulnerable and many times blind position. It's easy to tag somebody when they don't know your coming, or they are in a defenseless position, or have already been slowed down by another defender.

Do you watch football? I would dare any of us to play QB for even one play. You have 300lb men with one objective...TO KILL YOU-meantime, you are completely vunerable to their crushing blow. You are looking down the field with arms up in a thowing position and get slammed to the ground on your blindside.

i watch football religiously. Played football at several levels (Heh Division 3) I love Brady. i think he's tough.

But if you think the contact that the QB has is the same as an offensive lineman you're crazy. Almost every other position has more physical contact on every play than the QB. A guard has to be physical and tough on EVERY play. You are completely vunerable as a NT on every play to several 300 lb men who also want to maul you (or chop block). There are no refs ready to protect you if you're a defensive lineman. I would dare you to play guard for one play. You'll find you much more likely to eat dirt than at QB.

Honestly I think in this fantasy football world people overrate skill postions drastically (especially people who have never put on the pads). I understand the Brady lovefest, but to argue so feverishly that he is the toughest seems strange.

Obviously you were NOT a QB. Offensive linemen are 300lbs facing other 300lb men in a sumu match. The 230lb QB is getting his arse hit into the dirt. Sorry, but it takes ALOT more toughness to take a hit than give a hit.

Sorry to rant, I agree with a lot of your points. I just think that the big guys don't get enough credit for what they do. Its hard fo the average person to identify with what they do.
How many hits do you think a QB takes in a game? 10? 15? An OL or DL has to battle it out for like 50-60 plays. They take as many hits as they inflict. On EVERY play. They take on blocks and multiple players from all angles. Trust me, it hurts a lot. LB's take on offensive lineman and fullbacks for the same amount of plays.

Mmm...Tom Brady didnt necesarily "make Belichick a HOF'er". Brady is awesome but without Belichick we'd be a a wildcard contender at best.

I agree. I mean, I don't think you can take anything away from Brady as being a VITAL part of what we are now, but come on now. Brady didn't put together the plan to stop Marshall Faulk and the Greatest Show on Turf...something that was absolutely ESSENTIAL to winning our first SB. HE wasn't even on the field for that part!

It's Brady and BB together. One makes the other greater.

I agree that they both need each other. BB's record before Brady was dismal and even got him fired from one job and who knows, maybe close to getting fired again. Brady without BB was a 6th round draft pick, too skinny, too slow - NO one seemed to think would be anything but a clipboard holder at best - except maybe **** Rhieben.

Together they are pretty special!

I may be in the minority, but I don't think last year was Brady's best at all. I know he was playing hurt, but I saw a lot of uncharacteristic overthrows, often times with players who were wide open. Yes, he led the league in yardage and had a high TD total, but that had as much to do with the rushing futility that anything else.

I still think that his last 7-8 games in 2004 and the second half of 2004 were much better than 2005.

Agreed Oswlek. I saw a lot of overthrows last year. In particular was the Saints game, where he must have thrown 5-6 bombs to Andre Davis. 3-4 of those throws were horrible.
