Schefter: Pats sign Brandon Lloyd

I personally don't like it because I don't think he's the playmaker you all make him up to be. However, it's a fact that he's as good as any WR on our roster, or anyone who we could have drafted so I'm not allowed to whine through technicality. Lloyd is a Patriot now, so good luck to him.

I have to say...who saw THIS kind of lowball contract coming???Anybody who does is an outright liar...4 mil per..straight up??...only 3 years?? what the hell is the catch...this is too good to be true

The catch is having to keep Lloyd from becoming a locker room problem over time.

This is the deal I wanted and the player I wanted ...ON FEBRUARY 10TH..here's the link

http://www.patsfans.com/new-england...sitant-get-deep-threat-page6.html#post2959132

here's the quote..

For this I was savagely rebuked and called an idiot by none other than the board overlord and determiner of who is and isn't a "good " poster on this board...MoScrewySchlock...

Hi Mo!!! Have a good time spinning your way out of this...

You must have me confused with another board overlord since I never posted in that thread, moron... Andy took you to task pretty well though. You may have wanted Lloyd, so did I, but in your case it was for all the wrong reasons...

Agree on the contract, total shock at the numbers. Was his market value that low or is that a huge "hometown" discount?

Colbert and Kermit got the news :singing:

Lloyd REALLY wanted to go to New England. That's a fact. He hinted of giving Patriots a discount to be a Patriot.

You figure about 1m-2m max discount. So, the 4m/yr was probably a bit too much of a discount that Lloyd was willing to give. But, in the end, his desire to be a Patriots was too much.

My guess is Lloyd was asking for 7-8m/yr, if no discount.. IMO

He got signed for good #2 WR money. He has been really productive for McDaniels with lesser QBs throwing to him. If he is an 1,000 yard WR who can demand attention on the outside, he has been a fabulous pick up and a bargain. If he turns into a huge playmaker, he is one of the best free agent steals in recent history.

The Pats don't need a huge playmaker. They need a good outside/deep WR that will demand opposing defenses to put a safety deep and a CB to cover him. You don't need Calvin Johnson to achieve that.

If you think this is a bad deal, you are just not looking at it objectively. The Pats could have had receivers who have done less like Eddie Royal, Robert Meachum, or Laurent Robinson for far more money than they will pay Lloyd.

He needs to be able to threaten the middle-deep part of the field. He doesn't need to be Randy Moss circa 2007. Unless he loses his skills from the end of the past season, he'll fill that role just fine. They got him for pennies on the dollar, considering what guys like Garcon got.

Other than a possible locker room outburst by the guy, I don't really see much of a downside.

I don't think its that much of a surprise. Its about Ocho money, and its clear that Lloyd never really had a market, everyone was scared off by his off locker room baggage. I think its a good deal for both sides (especially the Pats )

No don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a bad deal. The Pats got a very good deal out of him. I just think what he's being advertised as, is a bit exaggerated, which is that he's a huge playmaker, and although 'you' know that it isn't the case, a lot of people think he is. If he turns out to be our consistent outside/deep threat under McDaniels I'll be very pleased. I'm just not jumping out of my chair right now.

My optimism in signing Lloyd is the trickle on effect it has with the rest of the receivers (outside of our Tight Ends). Welker is the clear number 1 option with Lloyd the clear number 2. Coupled with Gronkandez, any other receiver becomes the 5th or 6th option, depending on the formation. How many defenses, assuming the line holds are capable of putting Nickel or Dime defenses that can match up with something like that?

I'm fairly pleased with the Patriots acquisitions this off season (not that it matters a damn what I think, but it looks to be a success right now). I would hope that some high impact defensive players are next cab off the rank.

I know you didn't post in that thread, you went off in another thread weeks later...just like you did when I posted an OPINION that the Pats would tag Welker, which they did, which YOU rebuked me for in another over the top egomaniacal MoScrewsLooseThanTen Cannons extravaganza..and to finish it all off there was that petty, little girl snarkfest you posted in response to another OPINION that Manning would be Miami's next QB...well, he shunned them but he also shunned the team YOU were pontificating from on high was the REAL frontrunner. Now you want to lie and run your punk mouth...your reasons are the "RIGHT!!" reasons? YOU were all over the Wallace to the Pats bandwagon.

Never mind all this crap,I was just waiting for this to happen so I could draw you out...I knew your response would be "moron!!" ...now once again I'll ask you in plain English that even YOU, the Olympian Narcissist of Patsfans can understand...USE the ignore function...and stay off my back.

Why are two mods duking it out in previous Lloyd thread and then closing it...?

In 2010, he had six pass plays caught over 40 yards and 4 were for TDs. He also had six TD plays of over 40 yards in that season. That is far more of a playmaker than you give him credit for. He's not Calvin Johnson, but he can be a playmaker.
