Ahhh that one Good question, and only BB really knows apart from Kraft.
But considering the offer they made him and that we haven't signed any large deals since, I'd say there's still a lot of room.
And with the recent trend of big contract signings containing rolling guarantees, Mankins may have to accept those as well to protect the team in the event of a lock-out.
He's a jerk who was probably hoping the team would suffer without him to help his own case, only it didn't happen.
But he's a jerk who presents an immediate upgrade in terms of run blocking out of the LG position and helps with our O-line depth.
Because it sends the message that you can't screw over the team and then just stroll back in a couple months later like everything's OK. Letting Mankins just walk back in like nothing happened only increases the chances of this happening again.
haha im dying!
I am thinking Taylor gets ir'ed to make room myself.
Why is everybody so eager to "punish" Mankins by sitting him? Once he's ready to help, it would punish the team more than Mankins himself.
The Patriots already made their stand. They wouldn't cave, ran up the league's best record without him, and now it appears he's reporting earlier than strictly required. Message sent, now let's play football!
I'm not sure I agree with that statement. Ty Law called Belichick a liar, Logan Mankins called the organization liars. But Law never held out, missed any practices or games. So I'd say their statements were equally offensive, but Mankins' actions were worse.Ty Law did and said far worse. And BB kissed and made up because it was the right thing for the team.
So first you say this is something not a lot of players will look to replicate, then you say it will happen again regardless. And frankly I think Mankins situation is something not a lot of players will look to replicate. He's lost out on a ton of current money and when all is said and done with his next contract I bet he'll come out even.
Finally, this will happen again regardless.
Just guessing of course but I don't think it's crazy to think he's reporting early based on some contract discussions or resumed discussion. Bill needs to rebuild the line and 3 new OL players is one more than 2. The line will need a vet ... he's the best prospect to be the Ol leader for the next 4-5 years.
I wonder if BB just turns around and trades him...the Patriots really really need more picks...
