If Boutte is judged to have no future with us, then a 5th or 6th is a win. What is the probability of a 5th or 6th round pick ever making a meaningful multi year contribution on offense or defense in the NFL? Something like 3%? Why trade guys for that?
5th and 6th rounders are often special teamers or backups. That may be more than we hope for from Boutte.
As an aside, Douglas is in the same position. Folks have guessed that he really doesn't fit well into a Josh offense. Alternatively, he MIGHT be trained up to be a long-term starter in the slot.
