Sheftner while respected by most is wishy washy to say the least. On 2/28/2008 he said he was confident that Taylor wouldn't be going anywhere on 790 sports radio in South Florida. Now he's certain he will be dealt. Interseting!!! I've seen him flip flop one issues before as well.

For the record I'm really not as bias to the situation as folks may think. Obviously I want Taylor to remain a Dolphin but with the current crappy status of the team I'd understand trading him if the price was right. It's not like it's going to effect their Super Bowl hopes in 2008.LOL

That's foolishness.....things change all the time and while his sources could have been telling him that then....but now things have changed. There are no absolutes....if he said it on the radio station this morning and then changed what he was saying when talking on WEEI then that's different; but what he said was almost a week ago before FA began.

There are very few talking heads out there that I actually put credence to what they say, Shefter has proven he has good sources so it's worth talking about.

I agree, as far as the NFL goes, Adam is the go to guy for information. I'm not sure how he does it, but when he says something is or has happened, he's right on. Thank god, because he's the stiffest sports announcer I've ever seen !! On a side note, it also looks like Goodell uses him as the NFL Press Liaison.

I missed the very beginning but I tuned in right when Shefter said something like "in the very unlikely scenario in which Moss leaves". I didn't hear what he said about Moss early but he still clearly felt he would be back with us.

To me, it appears that Schefter is spoon-fed inside information by the league to boost demand for/viewership of the NFL Network. The research and legwork he's actually required to do is minimal.

In the SB with an undefeated season on the line, it was Hobbs who was covering the #1 Giants receiver (Buress).


We only need a CB who can thrive in the Patriots system which places minimal demand for a true shut down corner

If they'd wanted Samuel on him, they'd have had Samuel on him. It was a man defense. The team felt so confident about Samuel in that spot that it chose to keep an injured Hobbs on Burress instead. Now, it could have been about fooling Manning, for all I know. But it was a deliberate choice.

While I love Hobbs' return ability, I suspect that he won't see as much time in '08 as previously. I'm not 100% sure who they'd have to replace him, though (Jackson?); obviously, there are certain draftees that could do the trick (e.g., Tyvon Branch, although I'm not recommending him per se).

Heres the difference. I think that Shefter's agenda is being correct. He specualtes less, he seems to report factual stuff rather than rumors.
On the other hand you have John Clayton, who does a lead story, and writes a column about Randy Moss and Culpepper having a discussion about how they used to talk about being free agents together and being a package deal. This is considered NEWS by Clayton. However, he doesn't consider that no one wants Culpepper, he has no chance to start, he has been cut by 3 teams in 4 years, and goes on to say its not a package deal just an option.
By doing this, he creates the impression (if its a lead story, you assume the professional reporter only reports it if is possible) that Randy Moss is seriously considering leaving the Patriots so that he can play with Duante Culpepper.
If you just take the reporting at face value, you assume there could be teams out there competing to sign Moss and 'sweetening the deal' by giving him his 'choice' of Culpepper as starting QB.

This is how 2 different guys can get basically all of the same information, and how they use it changes their credibility drastically.

Excellent anlaysis of how some of the media seem to work. Scary to see the power they have even assuming that they do not have a hidden agenda and are simply making an error.

While the pats zone schemes generally have the same CB on the same side the whole time. I believe it is Asante as well who is a little limited on the other side. His mechanics and instict are better on his usual side.

If they stick with the system and look to improve on the pass rush, even if they do jam a little more, Ty remains a ballhawk and BB's system is all about putting them in place to make a play even while giving up some underneath stuff as long as you don't let them beat you long. It's a stop gap move but Bill is just not going to throw a rookie corner to the wolves.

Good analysis.....this is also IMHO why Reiss is a trusted reporter here and one that BB likes. (Reiss got the BB interview about spygate) He will wait until he knows the facts instead of just stupid rumors!
