The 49ers still have an average QB with an average WR corps but have a fantastic defense which is nearly impossible to run on in the red zone and pretty good against the pass as well.

The Packers have an Elite QB and a WR corps to die for plus a decent RB but they have a below average defense.

The Saints have an Elite QB and a WR corps that can be dominating and a decent RB but have a so-so defense that is nothing to write home about.

If NE was fortunate enough to get by with this poor defense and make it to the SB,Which of these 3 teams would be the best matchup?

Earlier this month I thought SF would be a much easier task to defeat should they meet in Indy because I could not see Smith staying up on scores with Brady, but after seeing what that defense did to Pittsburgh,I might want to think it over a little more deeper.

Whoa, jinx alert - way too early to be thinking about this. One game at a time; one game at a time.

The playoffs are only two weeks away and all of these teams are in,so why not?.....The question is IF not when

Its a little early but its not like its October

49ers and it's not even close

No doubt.

With the other teams, you actually have to worry about getting outscored. That is certainly not true with the 49'ers.

I'd much rather have a shot at them than Saints/Packers. Let them try and stop the passing game.

I agree, we have 2 very hard playoff games coming up first. Taking them one game at a time will be very crucial to moving on.

That said, I don't see anything wrong with the OP's poll either though, it's not like there's much going on here right now.

none of them to be honest

also, let's not get ahead of ourselves, lest we go through another year of one-and-done... :bricks:

Seahawks are going to the playoffs!

...maybe not, but they are my choice to face. Rookie CB's vs Brady!

49ers. I have faith that Brady would destroy their secondary and the Patriots defense would bend but not break against Alex Smith.

Right now, I want 2 playoff wins in Foxboro this season.

do any of you actually believe in the jinx crap?

I don't believe it is possible for the pats performance to be based on what gets posted here

With the 49ers the Pats win IF they are even or better in the turn over battly SF would need to be +2 IMO to beat the Pats.

The other games are shootouts. Injuries on the PAcker OL are an issue currently and we don't know the status of Spikes and (especially) Chung by the time of the SB.

Niners. Please tell me no one picked the either two..........

49ers easy. Yes they crushed Pitt, but that was with Big Ben playing with cement blocks for feet. If he was healthy I think Pitt would've won.
I think the Saints would be the toughest team in the NFL for us to beat.

The Niners could actually put the "D wins championships" adage to the test, to see if it still holds any weight.

If you compare the defenses of the favorite teams, it's not even close; it's San Fran in a runaway. I think they could surprise some teams come playoff time.

They're actually not that unlike the Pats from earlier in the decade.

Too early to be thinking Super Bowl.

But to answer the original question, I would prefer New Orleans. I don't think their defense would be able to stop Brady at all. SF has a great defense and Green Bay is playing at another level right now (except against Romeo LOL).

Has Brady ever beaten Brees? I have noticed that Brees consistently elevates his play against New England. Sean Payton is a Belichick wannabe. What greater glory than beating the (implicit) guru. For these reasons alone, New Orleans is scary.

Another lesser preference is SF. As an offensive power, you never want to play a top rated defense. Middle of the road rated defense is better.

That brings us to Green Bay. Them and us are evenly matched in offensive capability and defensive ineptitude.
