Run the Table Talk

Please don't feed the pundits!

It's hard for the media to tear you down before they have really built you up (as Eli Manning is finding out).

Build the expectation, and then we disappoint at 14-2.

A great defensive team, on the arm of Tom Brady once won 21 games in a row. Its possible. Its very possible. If we can make it til Rodney and Seymour come back then we can run the table. Problem is our starters will be rested in the final games of the season. i don't see Belichick making a super bowl a secondary objective. I just don't.

Brother Johnson,

By captioning my post are you implying that I'm angry about the suggestion. If that is so, you have missed the boat entirely.
There is no anger on my part whatsoever. I just happen to think its silly.
Respects,

Rich

It's not realistic to expect 16-0. The Patriots know this. All the talk, this early, is just the media finding something to talk about. As fans we'll almost always have the possibility in the back of our minds, but any serious talk about it this early in the season is, in Bill Belichick's words, ridiculous.

There are too many tough games on the schedule to be a serious possibilityof an undefeated season.

But... Y'all should be aware that the 16th victory will beat their current 18 consecutive victory regular season game record. This is so since they have a three game streak from last season going.

It would set them up to break their 21 all game win streak with a victory in the Super bowl XLII.

The Cleveland Browns and Coach Paul Brown, will still have the all time unbeaten streak at 28; (but with two ties, the first occurring in the Browns 18th game).

Could we please just, er, table this discussion until after the regular-season Indy game?

This is a great suggestion. Me thinks that game is a 50/50 tossup at this point in time. (But we may be much much better by then:rocker: )
After that game, the only team who could beat us is ourselves or Injury.
Frankly, I DO see BB prioritizing a perfect season. (If it appears probable).

Exactly, predicting 16-0 is the equivalent of prediting the best pitcher in baseball having a no-hitter that day.

A lot of luck needs to be on your side. EVERY team has at least one or two bad games where they turn the ball over 3,4 or 5 times.

but if they do go 19-0. We'll be telling our grandchildren "I watched the greatest football team of all time". Brady, moss and bruski will replace the miami geeser's with their bottle of champagne as teams fail to go undefeated.

I like the idea of 16-0 and certainly hope for it. For now, imagine the hype if they go into Indy and both teams are undefeated? YOW!

these are the type of threads that *almost* make me wish we lose tomorrow just to stop this talk.

To win 16 games in the regular season a team has to have a 17PPG margin of victory. Most teams that start off with 8+ wins don't average 31-14 ballgame. The difference between 14-2 and 16-0 is about 7PPG. If a team can't do that with their talent then they have to get very lucky to run the table. Like the 2002 Ohio State Buckeyes lucky.

BTW the Steelers have the best point differential. They have allowed 10 Points on the season. They are just as likely to win 16 games as NE. They should be 1,2 or 3 in any power ranking.

And they beat the Browns and the Bills who are both terrible meanwhile the Pats beat two of last years playoff teams. SD has been widely considered one of the best teams in football.

So how come nobody's speculating on the Texans, 49er's or any other 2-0 team going undefeated? At 2-0 BB getting asked about it got the right answer. Maybe when thier 12-0 it's a better time to ask the question.

That was kinda my point about the Steelers.

Just because our NEP beat two of last years playoff teams doesn't make them better than the Steelers. The Pats get their shot against Pittsburgh in a couple months to decide things.

When you win two games in the National Football League by 25+ points your legit in my book. The Steelers have played like a top 3 team so far. They are a front runner for homefield advantage in the AFC. I still think the Pats win though.

Nobody on this board wants to talk about 16-0 because they are full disciples of BB and he does not talk about anything except THIS week. 1 week at a time. BB is the best coach of all time, so I can respect Pats Fans adopting his mentality, I have done it myself to some degree.

I also think BB is a student of the game and a historian. He will never say it, he will never mention it but I believe that deep down BB has this in the back of his head. Once and for all he wants to absolutely eliminate the question of who is the greastest team of all time and cement his legacy. He knows that 19-0 will remove all doubt and stick it to everyone and I think he would love to do that.

I think they will go 19-0 but I hope in the middle of the season that someone, possibly even a crap team gives them a scare, just to keep them focused and remind them of what can happen if they let up. Maybe they go down early in the 1st half and then Brady leads a come from behind victory late. Just enough to put a scare into them.

I actually expect them to go 19-0 because I expect them to win every week. I know every team has bad weeks but I think spygate has just further solidified the resolve of this team.

I also think Randy Moss is not going to let up this year, he has a chip on his shoulder and wants to stick it to everyone who gave up on him.

The Super Bowl is the main subjective, which is why starters will not be rested at the end of the season. If the Pats do sit starters in the remaining couple games, they'll be knocked out in the divisional round.

Is your team really, really good? Yep.

Do I believe in jinxes? Yep.

If you start thinking about perfect seasons and looking ahead are you potentially setting yourself up to get your heart ripped out with a loss that crushes you and makes you walk around with a 10,000 yard stare for three weeks and lose your appetite and not recognize your loved ones or even your dog who you might forget to feed because nothing makes sense in your world anymore . . .?

Oh, sorry, I guess I recognized this sort of thinking and flashbacked to last January . . .

My thinking it's ridiculous to talk about going 16-0 when your only 2-0 has nothing to do with BB, the team or even jinxes if anyone thinks that. I just think at 2-0 in a 16 game season is like talking about if the Patriots will score 38 points every game.

Its possible. If any team could do it, it would be this pats team. Of course, that opinion is based on 2 games so, take it fwiw.

As a Colt's fan, I love this. All the talk about how awesome the pats are, maybe they go undefeated, etc., etc. is music to my ears. Let you guys be the frontrunners for once while my Colt's sit back and stew about not being respected.

Its like the tables are turned from the past several years.
