I'm beginning to get legitimately pissed off about this whole situation. I don't blame anyone involved but I just don't like this at all.

Best way to avoid this drama is to go and watch major league baseball where the owners can write as big a check as they want to write. Pretty clear that NFL has taken over from MLB as the US's favorite sport, and a big part of the reason why is that we like teams to have some caps on their spending.

I hate baseball and everything to do with it. I think the 2011 Red Sox vs 2011 Patriots seasons sum the attitude of baseball players up when Adrian Gonzalez, making 20 million bucks a year, was being a huge baby and *****ing about having to play outfield for like 2 games so Ortiz could be at first while at the same time Julien Edelamn, on a 7th round rookie deal, is playing freaking defensive back in playoff games with no complaints at all.

Actually the longer it drags out is better for Pats. He clearly had no Godfather offer already in writing or he'd have signed at 12:01.

From a Patriots stand point, it makes no sense to not give Revis your best offer now, because if they decline his 20 million dollar option, they will have 5 million in dead cap money.

That $5mil hit will hit the cap no matter what NE does. It is a sunk cost and therefore irrelevant to NE's decision process (other than the fact that it reduces available space by $5mil).

This, Revis made that 5m last season but only counted for 7 on the cap (he made 12m), its on the books no matter what unless its possible to push it into the future again with an extension (that's something I don't know about).

Agreed. I remember that Bob Kraft was approached a while back about becoming an owner of ManU and said quite publicly that he would never do so because the Premier League doesn't have a salary cap.
