Patriots Player Departure Rumor: Moss to Vikings?

Status
Not open for further replies.
Are you sure that is the case? i have heard different. What nfl network is saying is the vikings initiated this and have wanted him for weeks

Well, I haven't heard that. If they initiated it, this better be good compensation.

Do you know if the rumor Moss requested out of here after week 1 is true?

Are you guys forgetting this trade is happening because he requested a trade, acted like a ***** in practice to BB, lost his mind during the national anthem.

He's lost his mind, and I will be one of the proud to hope Chung lays him out.

Is any of that confirmed? NO! At 10:00 last night reports were coming out that Moss and Bill had "words", then half an hour later a "confirmed" source said they hadn't spoken all day. KNOW your INFO before posting.

Secondly, the Vikings were the one that initiated the trade, that much IS confirmed.

No no idea. Scheffler on NFL network said that the vikings have wanted this since week 1 and only now have things come to fruition.

Another rumour that i have read on this board is that moss asked his agent to demand a trade. Look both are believeable but the 2nd one sounds a little bit more like moss haters than fact to me

Re: Moss for a 3rd is illogical

who is gonna strech the field now? Edelman with 5-8? Welker? Injury prone Tate? That ridiculous.

Those comparing this team to the 2003 team really need to stop. And stop now. That team could afford to trade away a guy like Milloy because the defense was already top notch. They had the best front seven in football, they had Ty Law as a CB, and they already had Rodney Harrison. On top of that, they could *REPLACE* Milloy's production. They had a team at that time that was just entering their primes and could handle it.

This team? Not so much. This is an extremely young team. Who do we have that can replace what Randy Moss does? Assuming we move Tate to flanker, is he really going to demand double teams? What has he done so far to make anybody think that he can? Who are we going to move in across from him? Taylor Price? What makes anybody think that he can enter a game and play at anything approaching a competent level after the preseason he had? Welker will now demand the other team's best CB and will see safety help tacked on. On top of that, he's now a much bigger target for huge hits. He's now a bigger risk for a Ryan Clark-type kill shot. Edelman is good and will help, but his health hasn't exactly been primo. Hernandez is also good in the slot, but this trade will make things harder on him as well. As for Gronk? I like him, but we're already using him more as a blocker. Does anybody see that changing with Moss gone? I don't. I see it happening more. We're going to need all of the good blocking we can get.

Another reason to not like the Moss trade? Our running game hasn't exactly proven that it can be top notch against a good defense. Fred Taylor hasn't been able to stay healthy since he got here. Sammy Morris has had the same problem. Both, when healthy, are solid options, but haven't shown that they can be lean on like we might need to now that our premier deep threat is walking out the door for a third rounder. BJGE has ran well, but hasn't proven that he can be THE GUY against good defenses (1.9 YPC vs. the Jets comes to mind). Woodhead has been a solid option on third downs and has been a surprise of a runner, but he isn't a workhorse type of back. In trading Moss, we're going to need to pound the ball more than we have. We don't appear to have the runners to be able to do that. Do I even have to mention the problems that our O-Line has had run blocking in recent years?

In all, can we do it? It's certainly possible that we can make it work and go deep into the postseason. However, there are too many negatives to consider here. Our young defense is going to have their struggles this year. We've already seen that. Our young receivers are now going to have to step up more than ever, none more than Brandon Tate. He hasn't shown that he's ready for that monstrous challenge yet. Our 6'7" TE has already been relegated to blocking duty, and should expect to be blocking even more. We're going to need to rely HEAVILY on a running game for the first time, really, since 2004. This running game hasn't shown that they can be heavily relied on like we did back then. This O-Line hasn't shown that it can run block consistently against the better defenses in the league. And, another reason? Brady is now good friends with Moss. Unless something changed behind the scenes, I can't imagine Brady being happy with us.

But Adam Schefter is talking about this as if it's already a done deal. So I would like to say thank you, Randy, for all you've done for this organization since you've been here.

Great points but if he has thrown the toys (not once but now twice)what future does he have esp if we start to see him taking plays off and mooching around the rest of the season. It would become a circus and no-one wants that, esp Bill. If he doesn't get the ball 10 times a game and starts crying.

His heads gone, he's mentally fragile anyway and to me he's not the sort of guy who can overcome that and just play

Personally im hoping we can get something down with Jackson and SD (we have the ammo and could we use Mankins as bait?)

There has to be more then just giving moss for a third... there has to be another shoe to drop... Im upset that they are trading him to the vikings since we play them week 8... but if we say trade a 2 and a 3 to chargers for Vincent Jackson and get another pick for Mankins then Im happy that it ends up this way.. But its for a 3rd which will turn out to be another undersized CB this makes no sense...

Re: Moss for a 3rd is illogical

Just a differing opinion here...

Personally, I don't think Moss has played well at all this year, save for the one handed catch in the Jets game. I think we may be overvaluing him at this stage.

The WR corps looks great with or without Moss. I'm confident in Welker, Tate and Hernandez to pick up the slack. I'd like to see another guy come in, but I don't think Moss is the difference between playoffs or no playoffs, Super Bowl or no Super Bowl.

As for compensation, given Moss' age, I'd accept two 3rd rounders, a 2nd would be better. I don't see this deal involving a 1st round pick. Not at Moss' age, unless it is a 2012 pick.

Yeah but those are just buzz words for moss bandied around by people that want to find somehting wrong with him like slacker, takes plays off, dogging it (even tho he had an injury last year but said nothing) e.t.c then you want jackson who is another drinking incident away from missing serious time. I just think fans are very selective with the info they want to listen to.

Aside of Moss going, the lack of credible information on this "trade" is underwhelming... there is no real news, tons of speculation that makes great fodder for message boards....

There is nothing in the minnesota newspaper about compensation.. stay tuned.

I can only hope your right.

Trading Moss just for a round pick does not make sense.

We shall see what happens today.

All is speculation at this point.

please homers stop with the ''Moss is bad and makes baby cries and its the Lebron of the NFL'' . We needed him. Really. Our WR corps are rights now , with Welker at 80%, at least at bottom 10. If Welker falls again, out WR corps will be the worst in the league.

We have a exqb, a , for now, only KR, and a 20 years old TE , with lack of experience. That 's bull****

Ah, yes. That great defense that everyone in the world knew would be great since they were coming off one of the best defensive seasons ever.

Perhaps in hindsight, like you are using now, this move won't seem so disastrous. I also don't think you are the one to decide what can and cannot be discussed.

The more I think about this...the more it makes sense that the trade will be Moss for Winfield. Both have high cap numbers so likely will be do-able in the very difficult to do world of NFL player trades. Minnesota is stacked at CB and has desperate need at WR, we're stacked at WR and have a desperate need at CB. If they contacted us and at the same time Randy was indicating he wanted out, followed by his somewhat odd behaviour since, this could be a classic win-win. And no, I am not saying that Winfield is equivalent to Moss in terms of talent or whatever. I am saying that this trade may well make sense for both teams given their needs and the contract situations of the two players.

Well, at least it's not the first time they've traded his top receiving weapon directly after he signed an extension.

thats simly amazing. Kraft is a lier. I just cant get it. Im not that sad since Brady injury and SB loss. Im devasted .

Only for a few $ . My bad , what a luck for Mr Kraft hire Bellichick and getting Brady, this guy makes good Al Davis

Please stop posting

The Jets suck...

Really? Because we are better than you in 10/11 offensive positions. We are much deeper at RB and WR, our backups are better than your starters.

On defense? lol

The Pats will still be good without Moss, but the Jets are taking this division man. Like I said this will help your team long term, get Brady back to what he does best.

Re: Moss for a 3rd is illogical

All this talk about a 3rd round pick as compensation has to be wrong, hasn't it? Even the Vikings, by offering a contract between $8M to $10M per year (if true) are indicating they realize what they are getting in Moss.

When have the Pats ever hit big on a 3rd round pick? It was bad enough to give up Seymour for two years, but at least we know we'll be getting a 1st eventually.

Trading Moss for a 3rd makes zero sense. A pass rusher AND a 3rd makes sense. A DB AND a 3rd makes sense. A 1st and a 3rd makes sense.

But, to give up Moss four games into a season when they are 3 and 1, and to get nothing to help the team makes ZERO sense.

BB better not get ripped off again in a trade.

Or what? You going to yell at your computer?

3rd rounder plus Toby gerhart
