Rotoworld: Patriots #1 Offensive Line in NFL

Wendell is a top 5 center? hmmm.

The line is certainly one of the better ones in the league. It's debatable where they fall in the top ten. It's satisfying to see some unofficial recognition though.

huh???

rotoworld??...or crackworld?

did any of these weirdo fantasy geeks even WATCH the playoff game in Foxboro?...there was a #1 O line playing that night and it WASN'T the NEP's.

If the Dolphins are at #29 then I guess their best-in-the-East receivers are not really going to matter.

But this just seems to be regurgitated running yards / sacks allowed data, with very minor adjustments for personnel changes rather than any thoughtful projection.

color me dubious.

I do think that Scar is the best oline coach in the league.

One ranking says 2, the other says 28... pointing to the uselessness of this exercise

Proper title:

Patriots OL: Best in the NFL at doing what Brady says.

Well, we definitely know that it isn't "28th."

That said, I do agree with you that the exercise is pointless.

It is however, widely believed that the NEP have pretty much consistently been in the top 5-10 offensive lines around the NFL in the past 10+ yrs, and that's good enough for me.

Wendell had a hell of a productive year, especially in the run game if I recall correctly.

Belichick is an expert on the position of center, and one needs to be very good at a plethora of traits to be considered a "good" center, especially in a complex system such as this one.

I think it will say quite a lot if we see Wendell continuing to start there, as I would highly imagine that we will. There's definitely a reason why he's there over Connelly, who is actually the weakest link on the entire line.

Wendell's second half of the season was as good as any center in the league, according to the stats on run block efficiency and QB pressure/sacks allowed. Apparently he was very average for the first half.

That would make a lot of sense. As the year progressed and he became more comfortable with what he saw and the blocking assignments, his play showed more success.

Hopefully we see that progression continue.

We also need to hope that he chooses to stay after 2013.

I'll buy it, Mankins, Vollmer, Solder, and Wendell are all among the best in football at their respective positions and Connolly is decent as a RG. Their depth also performs admirably when called upon and they have the best unit coach in football.

Other people know better than I do. I don't have any vivid memories of his performance. But more often than not I'm sure he did a good job. When I think top 5, I think of Nick Mangold and hall of fame talents.

Dante seems best suited to developing guards and centers out of nobodies. Technique can really cover up for many physical shortcomings.

Tackles are obviously more dependent on talent.

coldhardfootballfacts.com also rate PATS Oline as #1 using their
statistical methods.

Where this oline or any oline would have trouble is when the opposing
D can defense the run without having to worry too much about receivers
beating one on one coverage. If we had better receivers in the AFCC last
year PATs would have scored a lot more than 13 points, IMO.

The OL isn't perfect and can definitely stand to be upgraded going into next season, but I thought they did a good enough job in pass protection against the Ravens. The problem was that they were being forced to have to hold their blocks for too long due to the fact that the only receiver consistently beating the press was Welker, and he was being double covered a huge portion of the game. Hard to blame them for that one considering the majority of the pressure Brady faced that game was due to coverage in the back end and the inability of other WR's to get open consistently.
