Revis turned down a lot of $$ this last offseason to sign with us

Ok..all of the reports must have been false them so take it up with the writers. But until we find out they were false..i will agree with the people who actually cover these issues..
So there were reports that Revis agreed to sign a contract with the Jets but Woody vetoed it? Really?

Those are not knock out factors.

"Wanted" and "seriously pursued" are 2 different things. There were no reports about other teams seriously stepping up in the Revis hunt. The teams mentioned were NE, returning to the Jets, Cleveland, and Oakland. For example, here's Adam Schefter's piece when the Pats signed Revis:

I'm open to the idea that a contender might have pursued Revis, but show me something that suggests that it's more than just speculation on your part.

Its all speculation.
Not that this article was written after the Patriots signed him, the day after he was released.
Those references were to teams who were known to have called about a trade.
It seems to me, as soon as Revis was released BB called and that was that.

IIRC, the Pats signed Revis the day after he was released. There was a fair amount of twitter discussion about potential suitors. Oakland and Cleveland were definitely mentioned, as well as the Jets. I don't recall any other teams being mentioned at the time. It's hard to cull the deep archives of twitter to come up with specifics.

Reading Twitter does not indicate what teams would have been interested in signing Revis.
I'm pretty sure there are teams that have thought processes, consider personell decisions, and actually reach out to Free Agents without it going on Twitter.

The top of the cornerback market was reset AFTER Revis signed with the Patriots. Before Revis signed, the top CB deal (Brandon Carr) had a 10M APY. Joe Haden, Richard Sherman, and Patrick Peterson all signed deals in the $13.5 to $14.01 range (a 35% to 40% increase).

With the exception of Revis' series of 1 year/$16M contract with TB signed in 2013.

I always thought the Revis is a mercenary thing this time around was overstated. How can he be a mercenary when he had a list of teams he wanted to play for? If you are going to go to the highest bidder, you are don't have a list. Your list is the guy who pays you the most.

Subject of post does not mention that Revis signed with the Patriots for a lot of money - $12 million.

I think If, and I mean IF the Pats win this year and they offer Revis a respectable deal $14-15 M apy, he might start thinking about his legacy and Canton. One thing many of those guys have is championships and often multiple ones. For every Kelly and Marino with no rings in HOF, there are guys with a few rings who were helped along. If ego plays a role in wanting to be known as the "greatest of all time" you need a few rings.....You aren't getting that in Jetsland or Buffalo......but you might in Foxboro or at least be in the running every year.

Starting to wonder about the Bills being players for Revis with Rexy there now. Continue to build that elite defense. Makes coming to terms with him crucial.
My thoughts exactly, i was scrolling down to see if someone had already posted about rex in buffalo trying to lure revis away.

I don't think the Jets ever put up a serious bid for Revis. And Revis WAS the highest paid CB at the time the Pats paid 13m for him. The bigger money CB signings came after Revis signed, so that is totally hindsight.

I really don't think Rex will even have a chance to talk to revis..if the pats are going to keep him..they will have a new deal before FA...they let him hit FA and it's going to be 50-50 he's back. I don't think they can afford to let him talk to other teams.

If Revis gets to free agency, it means that he and the Patriots could not agree to an extension. He is not coming back if he gets to free agency.

It's the price of winning and I bet he does not regret it.

If he wants to listen to offers then come back to the pats there is still a chance..not a good one but not 100% gone

But from all accounts he is fine with doing an extension now and so are the pats so i think it gets done before FA (after the season)

I had read your (very nice) article, but I'm wondering: is there any chance the Pats simply cough up that $20mil next season, as a sort of "franchising" in the event they fail to reach an extension? (Especially considering how plausible it seems Revis would land back in the division...) I'm guessing that would make new deals for McCourty, Gost, etc., completely intractable?

I think Rexy will go after him but the Bills need a QB before they are going to compete for the division and make some noise in the post season. Revis is 29 years old and has plenty of money. IMO, the pats won't make him the highest paid CB but will make him a fair offer. He needs to decide what is more important, playing for championships or $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
