Re: Mallett should be signed, sealed and delivered on Friday

i really hate the idea of keeping 3 QBs on the roster, but i don't know how you justify cutting your only real backup QB (Hoyer) or your 3rd round (1st around talent) QB (Mallet).

keeping an extra man here severely hurts you somewhere else. the patriots will have to cut a great prospect just so they can keep mallet on the roster who in all likelihood wont do anything for the patriots in 2011.

Not onboard with this argument : holding a place for Mallett, a talent despite possible character issues, is in NE's best interest. He can become a player down the road or be moved for a valuable high draft pick.

He will be player #46 - and only use up the space BB would otherwise use on a STer...

Three qbs for sure in 2011.

Umm...Special Teams is kind of important. Why not just keep Mallett inactive until he claims the #2 spot? There are 7 roster spots effectively allocated for injured (but not reserved) players and developmental types. Mallett really doesn't affect the gameday active roster numbers.

That being said, I'm really looking forward to seeing Mallett get some snaps in the preseason. The offense as you move down the depth chart can sometimes be painful to watch. Mallett slingin' it downfield should be interesting regardless of who is on the other end.

Re: Mallett should be signed, sealed and delivered on Friday

Mallett just tweeted:

"Headed to sign my contract. I can't wait to get out there"

Twitter

Cool stuff.

That may be the last tweet for a while.. somehow see Bill as placing some limits on this stuff.

Yes. This is a possibility.

It will be interesting to see what BB does now that the "3rd qb" option dosent exist... Who IS next in line after BB and his backup ? Edelman ? There was a time it was Troy Brown !

Ryan Mallett signed...

Marcus Cannon is signed

Now that he is under contract I can't wait to see if he passes his training camp physcal. He has maintained a training regiment all through his treatment, uninterupted. That will be big as to gaugeing what we will get out of him this year.
Good luck Marcus.

Re: Marcus Cannon is signed

You have to root for this kid, and if he is helathy enough to play this year, he will be an absolute steal (draftwise).

Re: Marcus Cannon is signed

He could have been a high draft pick if it wasnt for his condition.I hope it works out for him here.

Re: Marcus Cannon is signed

Won't take much to beat out Connolly.

Re: Marcus Cannon is signed

The Bears were rumored to be interested in Cannon with their first round pick and projecting him to LT. He has beast potential as a RG.

Just Vereen, Solder, and Dowling left.. Bet they are signed by tomorrow. .

100 percent agree.

wonder if the Pats bring in more UDFA or sign a couple of key Vets...

Any concern that the rookies haven't signed?

Just seems to me that the Patriots are usually one of the first teams to have all their draft picks signed and in camp, this year there are quite a few teams that have all their picks in or maybe just missing their 1st rounder. I wonder what the holdup is?
Also, any word on Matt Light? A few days ago it sounded like he was close to signing, now we have heard nothing.

Re: Any concern that the rookies haven't signed?

I'm not that concerned because I don't think many rookies are going to make much of an impact this season on any team.

Re: Any concern that the rookies haven't signed?

Some rookies will start though.Isnt Solder gonna be thrown out there?

No. All indications is that Light will return which means that Solder won't start until he is ready.
