Report: Patriots working to trade Matt Judon to Atlanta (Update: Deal is done)

There are plenty of good and interesting reasons to watch Patriots games this year, regardless of wins/losses. Whether any of them actually resonate with you is a matter of personal preference, and depends very much on what you get out of football in general.
You know what makes me upset they have no real reason to play Maye now and I wouldn't play him behind that abysmal OL. Biscuit is not a winner period I feel like I'm in a very bad dream. Everything I hope is just not going to happen with this Team.

Brissett will go down... don't worry PF2.. you will see bombs- away -maye daye soon!

When mayo kicked judon out of practice for causing a scene, I knew that judon would be traded.
Of course but it never should have gotten there.

Our best player who is completely unaware of his own value and doesn't have much time left in the league?

He had no business on this team.
It’s still early. Let’s see how that pans out. Unfortunately, the draft isn’t guaranteed. If Wolf ends up whiffing on a bunch of these draft picks, he won’t last long.

Honestly, it’s great to see you become more realistic.

Don't give up on that yet. I would be very surprised if Maye doesn't get in there at some point this season, and as bad as the OL looked in the Eagles joint practice, we have to give at least some leeway to it being a new scheme AND a new blocking/technique system that everyone is learning. There's always at least a chance that things improve. Not to the point where suddenly the OL is a strength, but good enough that Maye has a chance to show what he can/can't do. It's still super early in this process.

My hope at this point is 1993 all over again. Bad team with holes but rookies, particularly at QB, gaining experience and proving they belong. And most importantly playing well enough to win in December - a young team trending upwards. Then use FA and the high draft picks to be an actual contender in 2025 similar to 1994. That’s my hope anyway.
2025 is a bit optimistic, but I agree with the core of your argument.

In the end, that's the make or break thing. Bill's teams always had little quirky things that you could point to that either killed them (Malcolm Butler benching, for example) or pushed them over the top (Malcolm Butler being ready for that play against the Seahawks), but the foundation was always (aside from Brady) the core that was drafted.

First dynasty was Seymour, Warren, Wilfork, Branch, Light, etc.

Second dynasty was Edelman, Gronk, Hightower, McCourty, etc.

We'll always be able to second guess moves they make, but in the end if we don't trust them to pick the right guys in the draft consistently, none of that is going to matter anyway. Gotta give Wolf and Mayo time to prove who they are, for better or worse.

Another point that just occurred to me:

Even if you like this deal you should be pissed that we're doing it now instead of before the 2024 draft
Devil's advocate: What if Judon wasn't a cancer in March ? I think his sitting on the trash can hold-in, coupled with him saying he came here for Belichick spoke volumes of his buy in to the new regime.

It was a decent trade that had to happen under the circumstances.

That said, the FALCONS side of the trade is perplexing.

3rd rounder for a 32 YO who wants a new deal, and they have no cap space for this year or next AND didn’t talk deal before the trade.

Have we learned nothing from the Hassan Reddick debacle?

He also hadn't touched a football field yet by March. No physicals taken, no practice footage, nothing. So while typically March is the best time trade a guy, it's not a guarantee that his value was higher then, especially since the Falcons made this deal right after losing a pass rusher for the season.

I don't know anyone who gives an F about Atlanta's thinking. I'm a complete blank on that.

But it did. Both sides handled the situation poorly, but it happened. I'm shocked we were able to get a 3rd for him and that will be a high 3rd rounder too. We have more cap space to roll into next off-season. Double dipping at OT is a must!

...and he's not getting a new contract, as of right now anyway. Dude just wanted out. There's plenty of us here who want out too, but yet here we are.

If I had to guess, I think both sides assumed an agreement could be reached over the summer.

Wilfork didn’t win a Super Bowl as a starter until 2014. Keith Traylor was the starting NT his rookie season when they won in 2004.

Yup, and we shouldn't absolve the Pats of blame in that case either, because for all we know what soured Judon was seeing all the other extensions they gave out. I know my own ego would have been bothered by that too.
