I don’t know why you feel so strongly about this?

Gostkowski was taken in the 4th round, and Rodrigo Blankenship had more impressive stats throughout his college career, not to mention the kind of big game, college playoff experience that Gost never saw at Memphis.

I’m not only totally fine with using a mid round pick on the possibility of having a franchise kicker, but I’m actually hoping that it happens.

FWIW, he, Gostkowski, and Tyler Bass are all around 70% in college from 40+. [Aguayo was 50%, which made me wonder why he was seen as this can't miss prospect.]

I suppose that I see Blankenship as having a stronger leg, but that may just be my perception. I think he’s the one that I’d prefer, but would be good with either one. I certainly think it should be a position that’s addressed in the draft, and I have a feeling that Belichick would be fine with spending a 4th or 5th round pick at a position that’s so dependent on long kickoffs and kicking in the elements of the AFCEast.
