It may not be any more complicated than Brady being a workaholic. Belichick is a workaholic. The country is littered with workaholics. I'd venture to guess the rate of divorce among workaholics is higher than the average population.
Exactly. Both Belichick and Brady are known for their work and preparation obsessions. We’ve known this about them pretty much since the joined the Patriots. Belichick's marriage failed when he was in his 40s. Brady's marriage is failing in his 40s. We've had a lot of discussion in this thread on the toll a dad and husband being absent from family and kids takes on a marriage. I've read that divorce occurs 40% more in marriages where one partner is a workaholic.
I don't buy workaholism as an uncontrollable "irreconcilable difference" causing divorce in a profession that gives you at least five months away from "the grind" every year. BUT, there might be something to marriages failing for people in their forties.
A lot of speculation and truisms have been tossed around in this thread re. what and why. I keep coming back to a theory in social anthropology suggesting that men and women are driven together by Mother Nature to procreate and raise a family. Once the kids are older (at least school age) that job is finished, after which they move on to partners more compatible for things other than making babies.
