From the Atlanta Board:

"That sucks... I like svitek"

"I would have liked him to come back he was a solid backup"

"So much for our veteran offensive tackle depth"

"What a shame, i think the Pats gotta good one."

"Dimitroffed"

"Lost depth'

I usually don't put much into general analysis of a player as much as what fans of the team losing the player say - - they tend to be more critical if the guy wasn't that good.

These comments (none were critical, all were bummed to lose him) are nice indications.

Lately, both with Kaczur, Vollmer, and rookie Solder, the Pats have had a RT that can also play LT just fine. With Cannon currently penciled in as the starting RT, that's probably not the case anymore. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, it just means the team has to have a backup that can play LT, rather than just having an RT backup for when their RT flips to LT.

Vrabel and Bruschi and Stephen Neal did not start out as blockbuster signings or first day picks. First you start with a strong middle class. Then you coach them up.

Good for depth. Still need Vollmer or invest high draft pick.

Damn, did anyone else notice that he's 6' 6"?

Bill really loves monster OTs, huh?

Well, he's 31. They cannot spend years trying to coach this guy up....

We need to sign at least a couple of more OL's. After all, at least one will retire or be cut early in camp.

He started 10 games in 2011 at LT, there is not a lot of coaching to do. he is a NFL tackle.

Re: Reiss says we sugned OT Will Svitek

Insurance and competition for Cannon and Zusevics.

IMHO, the norm should be four OT's, with one being able to play RG (Cannon).
Of course, for now, Svitek is the replacement for Vollmer on our roster.

2 years ago, everyone was saying he would be a RG........ has he even played a snap there yet?

I believe he played snaps at both RG and RT last season.

Agree, seems to me that its a WR or OT for the 1st round, depending where the cap dollar goes before the draft.

BB took his time to find just the right OT to compete for SV's job should he leave.

SVitek for SV

Coincidence ??

Another ham and egg add on. Where is the blockbuster deal?!?!

No sweat, Dante will make Svitek into a serviceable member of the offensive line. Good move to save money and focus on defense. Dante: Coach Up / Patricia: Coach Down.

If there's one positional coach I am never concerned about it's Dante. That man swallows mediocre and regurgitates excellent.

Agreed....there is lots of excellent comments:

"I liked him as a depth guy and he stepped in when baker went down but at the same time we have Holmes so it's all good"

"Sorry, but I saw this coming. Svitek had 3 jobs on this team:

1. Be our swing tackle/elligible receiver
2. Play LT in a pinch
3. Provide veteran depth at RT

1,3 were given to Mike Johnson last year, and he did at least an OK job at both, while #2 is now Holmes' job. After we played through last season without really missing him much, his job became expendable. Still, I'll miss him. I'll never forget what he did for this team over the years. He saved our a.sses in 2011. I don't think it's far off to say that we might not have had a winning season, much less made the playoffs in 2011 if not for him. Good Luck buddy, I wish you the best."

"Going to miss him, nice humble guy who really saved the 2011 year when Sam Baker was on his period"

"Prefect New England guy. Surprised we didn't.bring him back"
