Reiss: Arrington's promotion came after Mangini's bid

Are you sure about that? I never heard that before. If it is true, why to the Pats pay some practice players full salaries? I thought it was so they wouldn't take offers from other teams??????

Because it saves a roster spot.

If another team tries to sign them(and the player accepts), the Patriots have to/can cut someone immediately to keep them. If they do that, they really can't send the player back down because he'd have to clear waivers.

Someone needs to post the rule. For me,

1) I don't think there is any RIGHT of a team to sign a player off our Practice Squad (I think the player is free to choose).

2) I don't think there is any right of first refusal.

I thought that the only restriction was that the new team had to keep the team on the 53-man squad for three games.

I read a different article a few days ago stating that Mangini tried to sign him away and that is why the Pats promoted him to the active roster.
In that article I read, it said that Mangini's first attempts were rebuffed when the Pats offered to redo Arrington's contract with a very sizeable increase in pay. Mangini responded with a promise of playing time - something Arrington considered worth leaving for... so the Pats had to promote him to the Active Roster ... they also gave him playing time ... it didn't say if that was part of their promise to him or not.

[Update]I can't seem to relocate that dang article. I even googled for it, but came up empty. I think it may have been this article which has not been removed: http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/breaking-news/story/1322985.html [/Update]

you mean, "Now I gnow you guys spell some words differently "

There's some words, yeah...

Like we have "Canadian bacon", but in Canada it's called "back bacon".

Then we have "American cheese", but they call it "back cheese".

We also have "French fries", and they call them "French fries", except in Quebec, where they call the "Pomme Frites". Poncy Quebecois...

So, any of you hosers want to go get some Elsinore and Pete's donuts, eh?

:singing:

You know you can get free beer by putting a baby mouse in a bottle and feeding it until it's too big to come out, then return it to the brewery?

Worked in the 80's. In movies.

Mangini is a greedy pig of a coach, that's for sure.

He reminds me of Augustus Gloop of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fame.

Things didn't end well for Augustus. How will they end of Mangini?
