Reiss: Arrington to unseat Butler?

Re: Arrington to Unseat Butler?

Everyone said Brace was a bust and now the Cincinnati OL said Brace was a handful and Brace starts against the Jests. So is Brace a bust? Butler has the tools - we have seen that - maybe he needs some seasoning and confidence. Wheatley looked good in pre-season, Crable is now on the 53 man roster, give the guys a little time - BB only keeps them around because they have the tools. If they could not perform they would be gone. The defense is complicated - it takes some a bit longer than others. Patience my PatsFans friends.

Brace actually showed promise filling in for Wilfork last season. He held his own. Not great, but not terrible either. Granted, CB is a harder position to play IMO and youre sort of on an island compared to playing Nose.

Those teams with competent QBs and Coordinators will continue to abuse him unless he gets its or is replaced.

Re: Arrington to Unseat Butler?

This thread is ridiculously funny

Re: Arrington to Unseat Butler?

Yes, Butler climbed up the draft board after the combine as some draft day steal. What a joke!

NE needed another CB because Butler has shown nothing. He is only starting because Bodden is out. It easy to see why now after Mark Sanchez looked like Elway abusing him. McCourty jumped over him and was/is starting opposite Bodden.

Butler aint no Ty Law. More like Chris Canty.

....a post just like all the other jokers who gave up on Bruschi, Samuel, McGinest, T Brown, etc. instantly.

A post like all the other apologist who were convinced that Maroney, Chad Jackson, Bethel Johnson, etc, just needed more time.

Butler = Bust

Never been in those camps. There's a reason Belichick put his faith in Butler, but never put his faith in Jackson and Johnson. Those guys got very little play. Belichick sent Butler out there with his first unit.

Like unseating Butler is a hard thing to do at this point. If you give me some pads and a helmet I think I could take Butler's spot.

Re: Arrington to Unseat Butler?

People hate to hear that NE players suck.

Maroney was a mistake and bust. Butler is heading down that road.

The NE D is screwed if this secondary does not improve soon because the P Mannings and Rothlisbergers in this passing league will have a field day.

I have no issue saying a Pats player sucks. Was never a Maroney fan, he was a major dissapointment. But RB and CB in the NFL have learning curves that are in no way comparable. Not to mention Butler has gone up against 3 very experienced vets in the first two weeks.

Calling him a bust at this point is just impatiance, at the very least.

Well tbf Butler got benched after 2 games as a starter... not exactly a show of confidence

It'll be interesting to see if the Kyle Arrington Error continues in Miami, or if Bill believes that Butler has learned his lesson. For someone who has made multiple ST tackles, Arrington sure missed a few open-field, 1-on-1 tackles on defense...as did, TBH, almost everybody else.

I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but Wheatley can't return to action soon enough.

Is Paris Lennon likely to take over from Monty Beisel in the desert any time soon?

What do you all make of this quote from Arrington?

As for if he will make his second career start, Arrington said time will tell.

"Bill’s philosophy is that whoever is playing at the highest level plays. Hopefully that will continue."

2 things:

Arrington hasn't been here long enough to be allowed to refer to his HC as "Bill";

Arrington seems to feel that he's a better CB than Butler, or anybody else not named McCourty.

Yup, someone should inform Arrington that he's CB #5 and he no shot of ever surpassing an unproven 2nd rounder. He needs to be put in his place.

If he plays well his place is on the field and that's exactly the place he will be put.

Self confidence is necessary in the very visible position of CB

Re: BSPN: change coming at right CB?

Kyle Arrington was covering Moss in practice according to a photo this week.

Practice for covering Marshall? This was in another thread but makes sense here too:
Matchup Dolphins should exploit: Few cornerbacks have the size and physicality needed to match up against Brandon Marshall, and second-year cornerback Darius Butler certainly isn't in that group. Butler, a product of Coral Springs Charter, is 5 feet 10, 183 pounds and doesn't possess the experience needed to do combat with Marshall, who is coming off a 10-catch, 166-yard, one-touchdown performance against the Jets. Last week the Patriots replaced Butler with Kyle Arrington, a former practice squad member. No matter who defends Marshall he shouldn't have problems getting open unless he's double covered.
Here's a look at some of the key matchups for Monday night's game between the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots - South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com

So maybe BB feels Arrington might match up better physically against Marshall than Butler who's 5'10 and 183 lbs. Who knows if the move is intended to be punitive or permanent but BB definitely seems to feel Arrington's a better fit for the fins' Brandon Marshall at least. Wise choice, and who better to practice against than Randy!

That photo is 2 weeks old. It's from before the Bills game.

I think you missed the implication. He's saying as long as Bill plays the best guys, he expects to be on the field. If Bill retreats from that conviction, then Arrington might not be playing.

I know Kyle might not have meant it to come out this way, but the words have that meaning.

Kyle was burned badly a few times against the Bills, he wasn't within 15 yards of his guy, so you'd think he'd reflect a bit on the need to improve instead of potentially second-guessing the way Belichick operates.
