As I said on another thread, teams get rid of Marty because he can't win the big one and after he leaves they can't even win the little ones.

At Least Marty gave them a chance at winning. Norv almost means a loss.

I can just picture, somewhere Marty is sitting round the tube (beer in hand), watching the Chargers play, and laughing his balls off. :singing:

AJ Asshat must be on a mission to destroy this team. I feel bad for the owner, and the fans.................. NOT (karma is a b!tch ain't it)

So much for AJ's yes man for a coach... I guess Jerky Jones almost mirror image plan is working out better in big d.

After all that trash talk coming into the season, and after their Week 1 victory over Chicago... it sure does look good on them.

I don't hear you talking now, Shaun Phillips!!

yes great quote.....unfortunately I have heard that quote before a long time ago. Wish i could remember where it was.
It may have been from me - or not - I've used it a variety of times; originally I heard it from a Browns fan.

Marty just gets the short end of the stick because he ends up playing greatness in its prime (Elway, Brady).

In a situation like this you should never feel bad for the owner. He's the one who couldn't manage his FO employees in a way that worked, and he was the one who allowed that situation to fester beyond all reason before picking sides.

They did a phone interview with Marty last week where they basically asked him if he was feeling vindicated, and he was about in tears saying it hurt him to see these men he loved struggling.

Huggers can set a tone on a young team that becomes near impossible to overcome when it's entrenched in immature core players. Schottenheimer allowed a sense of entitlement to develop on that team that is reeking havoc in his wake. AJ exacerbated that by happily dismissing his talent's shortcomings and blaming any failure on Marty. Norv is the real fall guy now since he was brought in to underscore how the talent and scheme were never the problem. He'll likely get canned before someone is forced to admit the truth, probably around 2009. Lack of accountability from top to bottom is the problem in SD.

I do not feel bad for the owner or fans. They wanted Shotty gone after a 14-2 season. Shotty coached a fine game against us. Three players made huge mistakes and they lost. The fans and owners deserve everything they are getting.

Sure Shotty should always have had someone else managing the calls in playoff games. That doesn't make him a terrible coach. He is one of the best.

Who came after him? Maybe each of the teamshired pathetic HC after they fired him. AJ Smith shouldn't be blame for firing him, he should have fired him after that Jets playoff game two or three seasons ago. Hiring Norv Turner is where he went wrong.

guys, read again....... the NOT part, reverses the statemtment. In no way do I feel bad for the owners, players, fans, ect...... In fact, I'm taking GREAT joy in all of this. So much so that I should be ashamed of myself. I just don't

Marty gets a bum rap. He lost a game because a reliable back fumbled. He lost a game because a reliable kicket blew a chip shot. He lost last year because he reacted to criticism and let Cam Cameron call the Pats game and if Marty hadn't done that he would have run LT all day and we wouldn't have won. He can't win for losing. He's still a good coach in my book. If the Redskins hadn't gotten rid of him they probably would have won something by now.

The worst part about the Chargers' apparent demise is that they probably won't beat the Colts, whom they will play at home in what shaped up to be an AFC-top-three round robin.

He coached the team to a 14-2 record. The team lost for the reasons you state. Marty gets fired, and not soon enough say many. He and his staff did a GREAT job last year. There are a lot of teams that should consider hiring him as soon as he wants to come back.
