Re the Gronk contract situation. Didn't the Pats bump Vollmer once?

But he can't sit there and sign the biggest contract for a TE 2 years into his rookie deal 3 years ago and be frustrated because what other guys are getting. Gronk, Gordie and Rosenhaus were all satisfied with the deal because they agreed to it.

Like I said I have mixed feelings about it.

If you include the bonus that was just paid, Gronk will be making double digit millions in 3 of the next 4 seasons. Not too shabby of a position to be in as far as being underpaid. That said, I still believe there was some hint of truth to his tweet, even if it was one of those "half jest" comments.

Since 2017 is his "down" year at 7m dollars, maybe they could include some incentives to raise it up a bit and show a good faith effort of making him happier. Of course, we have a player at WR who's making significantly less than both Gronk and what the receiver market dictates, so then you have to take his situation into account and that's where things get tricky.

This is the nature of the NFL business or sports business in general, a player signs a contract one year that looks very good which is outdone in the next couple of years.. time passes, salary cap changes and circumstances change, however he is still getting paid very well...

Both sides took a risk.. and it paid off for both.

Is Gronk still famous if he plays for the Lions?

I've only seen Megatron on Zaxby's commercials. Gronk said he's lived off his endorsements.

I'd like to think that smart athletes take a holistic, long-term view of their earnings and legacy. Brady being the epitome. But that might just be me making stuff up in my head.

Certainly they can create some kind of new fancy incentive. Perhaps if he makes and keeps two dental appointments a year.
