If you had to rate this transaction for Burgess would you give it a 1 for the worst rating or a 10 for top notch deal or somewhere in between?

Keep in mind that the trades and their value must be kept in mind,He didn't come free but your rating would have to do with what price did the Pats pay - too much?,somewhere in between? or just right?

I voted 7. Burgess probably wouldn't have been my first choice of all the options the Pats had this offseason (Peppers, Taylor, a draft pick), but he does help to fill the biggest hole on this team.

I give it an 8 - Peppers or even Wilhelm would have been great but we all know it would have cost the team dearly down the line with cap suicide but this Burgess guy should be worth an 8 rating

I gave it an 8. Solid trade that fills a need. We only gave up a 3rd and 5th. The defense is pretty much set for 09.

I was debating between a seven or eight. I guess I didn't want to be considered a homer since I have been talking up this trade and picked seven. I think this trade has the potential of being a 9 or a 10 by the end of the season. Granted it could be a 5 or a 6 too.

7...the jury is out.

BUt he fills a HUGE need. I love the trade.

Raider fans out here in Cali, like the picks they got, but hate losing Burgess.

This is a bit like rating the draft on the next day.

It's too early to tell. If he plays like he did in '05-'06 or even '07, it's a great trade. If he turns out to be a dud, then it's a terrible trade.

I gave it an 8. Pass rush help was our biggest need and we were able to get a player in his prime who led the league in sacks just two years ago without giving up a second or first round pick.

7 happy with the trade gives the D a great deal of flexibility. if he gives us ~25 plays a game that will be fine. Wood will take about the same number of reps and we will only play 3 LB half the time anyway (lots of nickle and dime pkgs..)

I am very happy with the roster at this time.

Agreed on all counts.

If the production is there, this jumps to an 8/9.

I gave it a 7. He fills a major hole, and while the picks given were higher than what I first expected- it gives BB time to work him in to his role before the season opener. By the time the draft is here, I think BB will have worked some other trades to lessen the impact of the picks given up for him. If either that happens or he works out well and gets extended for a reasonable amount for another 2 years I'd give it an 8.

Price was higher than the Patriots usually pay, but Burgess addresses the most significant question mark the Patriots had - and draft picks are overvalued by most. I rated it a 7.

I gave it a 1 -- to rate this trade any higher is to disrespect the amazing possibilities of the potential of having Peppers quite possibly joining the Pats sometime in the near indeterminate future. Or sometime later than that, if not earlier.

Hey, maybe we can trade Burgess to the Panthers for you know who.

(snark, I really voted 8, love the trade, hoping for the best)

I would take him over taylor, never liked the Taylor talk, I would have loved peppers, but i guess that was a pipe dream.

Was this to grade the addition of Burgess or the trade itself...because as far as the trade goes we did give up a lot for a guy with one year left of his contract. But as far as the addition I had concerns about the depth at OLB and pass rush was an obvious need. I went with the average of these two thoughts as a the trade goes I would say an even 5 and as for the addition I would say 7 he is good but for one year. so 6 it is.

I agree with most everyone else's opinion. It's still too early. I went with 8 pretty much because (in theory), it's one of the final pieces in what could be a very good defense. No question (if on the field) he gives us a great rushing upgrade over where we were Monday.

If the guy stays healthy and gives us 10-14 sacks and make a run at another title, then sh!t yeah........... this is a 9-10 straight-up. But if he comes in, doesn't produce, get hurt and otherwise is a wash-out, it'll go down to a 2-3. You just shrug the shoulders and say......... "after so many times dipping the cup into the "Big Al" well and coming up Aces , he finally got one back.

I'm more excited about what this pick up COULD do and voted that way. What it will mean won't be known for awhile.

can i pull a Fred Kirsch and reserve judgment until after the season?

This is a bit like rating the draft on the next day.

Agreed. It appears to have a good shot at turning out well. That's about all we can say.
