Rapoport/Howe: Pats will look to extend Brady next offseason

Mother****** said he'd play for free. Prove it, Tom! #selfishtogetpaid
So did Long, for that matter. Well, he said $1. Brady just had to one up him. That guy wants to win at everything.

The NFLPA would freak out, and rightly so. Players also have a responsibility to other players.

That made sense in a non-cap era, and even in a cap era that didn't have a spending floor. It doesn't really hold up anymore.

Maybe the Pats should just draft a high school star... and when he's 24, he can slide right into--after 7 years practice and understudying--Brady's role, and we will not miss a beat.

I think he can play well the next two years but i think it's critical to keep a strong offensive line and a running game. Sooner or later he will lose zip on his passes.

I think this Brady kid has earned a decent contract

I think it's more about continuing to push the franchise tag number up. Not talking about the Brady situation specifically but superstars taking a heavy discount generally. Although since all QB get paid ridiculous amounts you are right that it almost doesn't matter.

Maybe, but what Brady's doing is without precedent, so it's not as if the NFLPA can scream "But these guys did it like this!" to the G.O.A.T..

NFLPA: But, Tom, this will set back QB pay up to, maybe, a million dollars a year!

TFB: Go pound sand. I want BB to have as much money as he needs to make sure my OL is good enough that I'm not getting pounded into the turf every game.

It's all a plot to make Osweiler's contract look like a bargain.

Look out Blanda ...... Tom Brady is coming ... wonder if George ate avocado ice cream?

He smoked avocado flavored Marlboro's after the game.

I dunno... The NFLPA totally had Brady's back during deflategate. Don't think he'd just tell them to "pound sand".

No. I don't think the NFLPA is that annoyed by Brady, either. He's such a special case and clearly didn't hurt the inferior Osweiller with the most recent QB contract to be signed. They're fine.

Welp, I've been one against trading away Jimmy. But if they really believe he's good for another 3-5 years... We can't keep Jimmy that long. Make the move I guess.

Well, that settles Jimmy being traded or not. Does this news hurt his draft stock a little? Now other teams know Jimmy is not a potential heir.

If Brady wants to win he should take league minimum and use that money to buy a star WR. But I mean I'm sure he needs more money..

I've seen this opinion a few times. It is incredibly short-sighted and assumes the league is like Madden.

Let's say he does this. And then he starts to lose a step or sail a few balls. It would be incredibly easy for the team to just cut him and replace him.

This year, he's the 18th-highest paid QB. Guys like Kaepernick and Cutler and Alex Smith (need to mention his first name because you don't know who he is by his last name alone) are making more. He already gives quite a discount.

But in many of his recent deals, it isn't about the average, but the guaranteed amount. Brady makes it difficult to cut him. He doesn't want to be the highest-paid QB, but he definitely wants to be the starting QB. So if he gets paid $13M a year and provides $25M in value, he starts. If he starts to slip a bit, even into say Alex Smith-level production, he's still being paid less than that.

It's a balance between helping the team while also giving yourself leverage to stay on the team.

I am now sold that BB will be drafting USC QB Sam Darnold in about 2-3 years. Young beast!
