Rapaport: Hightower "exploring, but open to returning to the Patriots"

The only silver lining there is that he would at least beat up on the Colts 2x a year

The AFCS could be about to get very interesting:
  • Colts have a new GM. If he's even borderline competent, that team will become a legit competitor in 1-2 years
  • Houston is a QB, and a Big Vince replacement, away from being a legit competitor
  • Tennessee looks to be in position to go as far as Mariota can take a team

And that's why I called it a category error. We know that there are different sub-markets in sports. Some simple examples:

First contract
ERFA contract
RFA contract
Free agency
Tagged players

The same player, playing at the same level, will be looking at different market values in each of those sub-markets, so the parameters of an overpay aren't fixed.
Very good and cogent observation, Deus.

He might. If he's injured in training camp and cut he goes back to mississippi with a million dollars, after taxes maybe. A contract well below market that guaranteed him 20m...that's set for life money. All about utility.
Then the patriots would most likely have already signed him, or they could match the offer if he agreed to a below market deal.
