Rapaport: Blount and Pats have mutual interest

Meh. I'm not opposed to his return but the guy just has a tendency to fade in big games, aside from Indianapolis. Pretty indifferent about whether he comes back or not.

Almost always happens in the same game the offensive line cannot protect Brady. Chicken or egg...do they struggle to protect because the other team knows they can't run against a base defense, or do they not run the ball well because the offensive line sucks/the passing game fails to establish its needed dominance to establish their running game.

Either way, I somewhat agree that I'd like to see a more consistently good running attack in the postseason, but frankly I'm not sure if many teams can really do that. It seems like you face better run defenses because holes just don't seem to open up. That has not just been a Blount issue; it has been an issue for the team for a long time, which is why they seem to have favored the short passing game (utilizing running backs like Vereen and White) rather that trying to establish the classic running game.

LeGarrette Blount has made $6.5 million in 7 seasons combined and had his career year as a 30 year old RB. That's the guy to feel for.

Damn

that does kind of blow

Obviously it's a lot of money for a normal dude, but in the NFL he really has never cashed in. No wonder he's holding out for every cent he can get

Pats stable of RB's is pretty versatile......adding Blount on a one year deal and drafting a youngster for the future makes sense......
That seems like a good plan

wasn't he recovering from surgery then?
He maybe was still recovering. I'm not sure. Nonetheless, he didn't receive any visits then, as is the case now. So regardless why, it's playing out the same way. And I'm not trying to sound like smart ass, so don't take it that way. I'm just saying that the reasons why here seem irrelevant. There just isn't much of a market for his services besides us and I'm hearing the Giants being mentioned.

Not that I'm disagreeing with you necessarily so much as I'm pointing out that that would be 5 RB's. Do the Pats have a history of keeping that many?

That's not too bad for a guy who they can have on the cheap.

Look at his career. Last year was his best. I wouldn't lean on him for 299 rushes like they did last year, but he fits the bill. A healthy Lewis,White and Burkhardt means he won't be wearing down late in the season.

We can do better than Blount but we don't have to so bring him back I guess, IDGAF.

im a big fan of blount.

That being said, i hope he saw an optometrist this offseason because he missed SO many huge holes to run through.

Regardless - BB's history + the pounding RBs take - would make sense to get one in the middle rounds this Spring and maybe get an undrafted FA as well.

I like bringing back LG to have a duo on the thunder side Burkhead/LG. Compliments the duo on the lightning side Lewis/White. The duos lighten the load and guard against injuries.

I'm guffawing at the posters who are dumping on Blount.

Dude ran for over 1,000 yards last year with 18 touchdowns and he will get less than $2 million next year.

People are acting like he's Bernie Madoff or something.

Blount is good luck. On top of that, my favorite characteristic of Blount is that he gets better as the game progresses.

He's money at the goal line but I remember too many 1- and 2-yard carries on first and second down. He carried the ball a lot last year (299 times) and had only seven carries of 20-plus yards. I think people want to see someone with more breakaway ability on first and second downs.

I guess Belichick may decide to go with no RB's signed for 2018: Lewis, Bulkhead, White and Blount.
