With Lynch’s contract up at the end of this season, and with the possibility of him being able to return (groin) in December, the Pats should kick the tires, on what would be at a low risk, low cost Option price.

If you trade for him, then you have to pay him around $3 million to sit on IR for half a season before he ever puts on a Patriots uniform. If he wants to play again this season (I’m not sure he does), then he should negotiate an injury settlement and get released.

Isn’t the NFL Trade Ideas thread intended for this sort of thing? There’s a new thread everyday it seems about player X being traded or signed, tires kicked, etc..

"the possibility of him being able to return (groin) in December", so the proposal is that the author of this thread wants to use valuable cap dollars on the possibility of Lynch returning in December???

Then use one of injured reserve spots that can be used for other players???

Makes no sense to this fan...

Umm sure let’s trade for a guy on IR when we only have currently 2 RB on IR and 1 RB that nearly was put on IR.

Makes all the sense in the world.

If you're suggesting that the Pats consider signing Lynch when he becomes a UFA next spring ...highly unlikely (or useful).

The Pats already have Michel (age 23), White (age 26) and Burkhead (age 28) under contract for 2019, and seem likely to re-sign Hill (age 26). I'm not seeing any reason why they'd want to put any effort toward "kicking the tires" on a 32-year-old RB who they've played against on several occasions, and for whom they have 11 seasons of tape.
