He was spending his offseason in New Orleans to help family and friends with their rebuilding. I was lucky enough to be at that game when he and the Tigers won that National Championship, and I was pleased for him to add a Super Bowl ring. Good guy, role model, team player, and he died a hero. He'll be missed.
New Orleanians and LSU Tigers are sharing your pain today, Patriots. Prayers are going out to the family and friends left behind.

i have a question for those around Louisiana who might have knowledge of this:
They said incident happened at lake Pontchartrain on the south end. Now..they say the body was found by the Industrial Canal which is more than 60 miles to the east by Mobile Bay if im correct. Can someone confirm how far it is and if thats the way the currents are
The Industrial Canal is a 5.5 mile (9 km) waterway in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. The waterway's proper name, as used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and on NOAA nautical charts, is Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (IHNC). The more common "Industrial Canal" name is used locally, both by commercial mariners and by landside residents.[1]
The canal connects the Mississippi River to Lake Pontchartrain. Approximately half of the waterway's course, from Industrial Lock to a point north of the Florida Avenue Bridge, is confluent with both the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO).
The Industrial Canal runs into the Lake from the river. From Wikipedia:

An absolutely brutal story. Seemed like a good guy, and so frustrating to have died so senselessly. Hopefully people will take a lesson from it in terms of water-safety, life-preservers, etc... but that hardly merits discussion right now. Right now it's all about his friends and family - and that fiancee of his, God, what heartbreak.
RIP, Marquise. We hardly knew ye.
What an awful tragedy. A young man with lots to live for...very hard to see the picture of his fiancee. My condolences to his family, friends and teammates.
What happens now to his family? All reports say he was trying to get them back on their feet post-Katrina...they must be depending on him.
Gosh, I hope he left savings for his parents or maybe a life insurance of some sort. I can't imagine grieving this kind of loss and to be financially strapped at the same time.
This puts a definited damper on the offseason...I just want the season to start and maybe they can dedicate a record setting year to Marquise.
God help his family, and may he rest in peace.
