I did not know much about him, but it is alwasy sad when something like this happens.

RIP

Yes it's rough. He was spending his offseason in New Orleans to help family and friends with their rebuilding. I was lucky enough to be at that game when he and the Tigers won that National Championship, and I was pleased for him to add a Super Bowl ring. Good guy, role model, team player, and he died a hero. He'll be missed.

New Orleanians and LSU Tigers are sharing your pain today, Patriots. Prayers are going out to the family and friends left behind.

Well said, he'll definetly be missed.

is there a guy on this board by the name of PatsRus435 or something like that?

i was looking at saints board and they said a guy by that name on ESPN board said something like "he was a bum of a player..this is a sports board. i didnt know him so forget him"

if a guy by that name is on the board..lemme know. im gonna go nuts

A quick check of the members list suggests no.

Who the hell gives a **** if there is one smart ass trying to make a joke of something serious. There always is so just cut the **** and ignore him.

Just saw the story on ESPN.com.....RIP Marquise.

poor guy...

I would like to send my sincere condolences from my little place in the Steeler Nation. Marquis Hill was someone's son, friend, teammate and a precious soul taken too soon. As I said not once but twice to the Denver Bronco fans not so long ago, it's times like this that brings us all together as football fans, brothers and sisters. The Steeler Nation came all too close to losing one of our own last year. I'm am so sorry for your loss. RIP, Marquise.

On this Memorial Day let us remember Marquise Hill.

Let us take a moment to thank G_d for men like these, those who gave of themselves the ultimate sacrifice for others.

R.I.P Mr. Hill...your final play made you a Patriot for the ages.

i have a question for those around Louisiana who might have knowledge of this:

They said incident happened at lake Pontchartrain on the south end. Now..they say the body was found by the Industrial Canal which is more than 60 miles to the east by Mobile Bay if im correct. Can someone confirm how far it is and if thats the way the currents are

The Industrial Canal runs into the Lake from the river, right around the spot where he disappeared. From Wikipedia:

The Industrial Canal is a 5.5 mile (9 km) waterway in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. The waterway's proper name, as used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and on NOAA nautical charts, is Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (IHNC). The more common "Industrial Canal" name is used locally, both by commercial mariners and by landside residents.[1]

The canal connects the Mississippi River to Lake Pontchartrain. Approximately half of the waterway's course, from Industrial Lock to a point north of the Florida Avenue Bridge, is confluent with both the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO).

From a division rival: there'll be plenty of time between now and September for us to get back to hating on each others' teams, but today, our condolences go out to all of Patriot Nation.

What an awful tragedy. A young man with lots to live for...very hard to see the picture of his fiancee. My condolences to his family, friends and teammates.

i am so sorry for your loss guys, and for hill's friends an family's loss

i pray that he rest in peace, and i hope you all will be ok.

An absolutely brutal story. Seemed like a good guy, and so frustrating to have died so senselessly. Hopefully people will take a lesson from it in terms of water-safety, life-preservers, etc... but that hardly merits discussion right now. Right now it's all about his friends and family - and that fiancee of his, God, what heartbreak.

RIP, Marquise. We hardly knew ye.

very true
you take solace (spelling?) in the fact that hopefully this terrible untimely death ends up saving someone elses life in the future, by the fact that he is famous, and ppl will take notice that he did not have a life-preserver on

personally, i never used to wear a seat-belt
since derrick thomas' death, i havent not worn a seat-belt
i was in one accident after that where the car i was in flipped onto its side
i ended up with a few scrapes
had i not had my seat belt on, who knows

it was like len bias' mom said after he died, somethine like this: he would have impacted many ppls lives in life, he will affect even more in death

What happens now to his family? All reports say he was trying to get them back on their feet post-Katrina...they must be depending on him.
Gosh, I hope he left savings for his parents or maybe a life insurance of some sort. I can't imagine grieving this kind of loss and to be financially strapped at the same time.
This puts a definited damper on the offseason...I just want the season to start and maybe they can dedicate a record setting year to Marquise.

God help his family, and may he rest in peace.

I just heard on seven news that Marquise did leave behind a child. They didn't say how old the child was but it appears that the child is very young.
So sad.
