Props to Dumervil for a clean hit

It was a vicious hit. Totally uncalled for.

Was shocked it wasn't flagged. In this era of arena ball I couldn't believe the refs actually let a real football play stand. Hated it was on Brady but loved the hit. Miss the old NFL ....

Edit: There is one BIG difference. Rivers was in the process of throwing the ball. Brady wasn't, so "roughing the passer" doesn't apply.

I thought the QB was considered a passer as long as he was in the pocket.

It scared the bejeezus out of me watching that hit, specially the slow-mo replay where his helmet just smashes his forearm. Then relief flooded through me when Brady jumped up and threw a pass the next play. Elvis is a stud, wish he was a Patriot!!

Looking at the replay, I wondered how Brady didn't break his forearm on that play.

He led with his helmet and he better get fined because the same thing happened to Carter (that hairline issue).

He led with his facemask. That is textbook form.

I guarantee Brady wont complain about that hit, was clean and fair and hard and credi Brady for taking it and getting up, and holding on to the ball. He must do more in that weight room than we think

Hmm. I think you're right about that.

Anyways, I don't think we'll unlock what the mystery criteria is that the NFL uses to differentiate a good hit from a penalty/fine in this thread. I think most, at least the sane ones, are in agreement that this was a great hit by a great player and it should never result in a penalty.

Dumervil even puts out his left hand to keep from driving Brady into the turf too hard.

That was ABSOLUTELY a perfect form tackle. It was a credit to every football coach who teaches the game. However when you compare that perfect hit with other "perfect" hits that have been flagged and fined, it wouldn't have been a surprise if it had been penalized ...disappointing, but not surprising. And that's the problem. I was thrilled that they didn't flag that hit, but the fact that they didn't was simply an ARBITRARY decision, and the next time, the exact same hit WILLl be flagged. And that is fundamentally wrong and needs to be fixed.

Wilfork got called for holding on a PASS PLAY in the 4th quarter...A PASS PLAY!!!!!!!...holy jeezus...and then Carey just stands there staring as Denver OLmen trip, grab, push from behind, pull the shirts from behind and chop block with impunity the entire fourth quarter....I don't want to read ONE piece of mouse peeping coming from this fanbase about the refs....

That had me befuddled also... Especially since Wilfork was RUSHING THE PASSER on the play..

Too short.

for those of us who spend time in the draft subforum, we've learned how picky BB is on DE. They've got to be taller than the 6'2" Elvis.

I think the flack jacket went a long way in cushioning the blow. I too was nervous seeing the helmet-on-forearm blow.

What I really want to know is whose fault it was letting him get by. As far as I can tell, Solder screwed up taking the inside guy. Elvis came on the outside and Awesome Brian couldn't get there--he had a bad angle--in time to prevent the QB from getting killed.

This was a good scheme if I'm right against the rookie. He better learn not to flub up like that again. Marcus looked awfully good as a RT.

Great hit.....I was glad to see Brady jump up...hope he keeps that fire through the playoffs !

I'm surprised they didn't call a flag on this play. Not that I think it deserves a flag, but it just seems like if you hit someone too hard this year, the zebras will throw a flag. They could have called something like "driving into the ground" BS.

I thought the QB was considered a passer as long as he was in the pocket.

A little more clarification...

A rushing defender is prohibited from committing such intimidating and punishing acts as "stuffing" a passer into the ground or unnecessarily wrestling or driving him down after the passer has thrown the ball, even if the rusher makes his initial contact with the passer within the one-step limitation provided for above. When tackling a passer who is in a virtually defenseless posture (e.g., during or just after throwing a pass), a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down and land on top of him with all or most of the defender's weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap up or cradle the passer with the defensive player's arms.

The more you look at that hit, the better it appears as far as being clean.
