Problems with replay and proof that refs just make things up sometimes (link)

Steratore is just horrible.. At one point, someone was asking for an explanation and Steratore put his hand up, said something like "I don't want to hear it" and then proceeded to make the absolute WRONG CALL.. I swear I saw one or two of his crew look at him like "WTF"?

is it unreasonable to surmise that there may an NBA ref type problem with some of these NFL refs?

Not unreasonable at all.. Especially on guys workings Colts games..

It's pretty bad when you can guarantee that the refs are going to call at least one PHANTOM pass interference penalty in the 2nd half of a Colts game at a crucial time to help change the tide of the game..

Because guessing in real-time is a requirement sometimes. But to assume a guess on a replay I think is just wrong. I don't think there's any better way than to require conclusive evidence on a replay.

And even with replay, the refs still make things up. Look at the ending of the Xavier-Butler basketball game this past weekend when a stopped clock (inadvertent and for a second) with 14 seconds left wasn't corrected until the winning basket was scored ( and waved off after ten minutes) with 1 second left....

The refs say, "None of us saw it!"

Like the ref who was 40 yards away on the Champ Bailey-Ben Watson play in the playoffs in 2006.

That would reflect poorly on them as time goes on if it were to happen frequently, and then refs wouldn't admit to anything and revert back to guessing. There's no possible way to force them to tell the truth while making it not reflect poorly on them when compared to other refs around the league.

I can't understand you, really.

I have seen them get together and not make a call precisely because no one saw the play. I don't see how it would reflect poorly on them. First off, it doesn't happen often. Secondly, people would respect the whole process more.
