Preseason Game 1 discussion: What do you want to see tonight?

I want to see Maye and Milton go through a full progression and hit a receiver in stride that wasn't open when he threw it.
Its asking a lot, but I'd love to see both do it.

Ja'Lynn Polk is the big mystery to me. He is a very difficult to evaluate because he was WR 2 or 3 at Washington behind Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan so he was not going up against the opponents top CBs and probably got single coverage. So in spite of his pedestrian 40 and 3-cone times, he looks pretty good in his college tape. The Patriots were snookered before in 2009 when they took Ron Brace whose college performance was artificially enhanced because he was playing next to BJ Raji...I know, different regime, but were they snookered again?

So far the reports from camp on Polk have been variable, but some reports say he has stood out against the CBs; I am not able to get to camp to see for myself so I really want to see how he does in a game. However I am willing to give Wolf the benefit of the doubt here; there is a lot more to WRs than their 40 time. One worry is that it seems as if the guy that Patriots really wanted was Xavier Legette, but could not make the trade and had to "settle" for Polk. We shall see, but it may take a few preseason games to find out.

All about the OL for me, who are the starters, pass protection and setting up the run. I agree with the article if the OL is having a rough go at it then no sense playing Maye or Brissett much.

Ideally we get a good sense of the team's thinking for the Bengals opener.
The OL and how well folks are in returning from past injuries.
========
Mayo indicated that he would like to have his OL set after the second pre-season game. There is a lot of play between now and then.

OLine play, Maye and Milton, LB play. Lastly, who stands out at WR

Things to note:
Kayshon Boutte over Jalen Reagor at WR
Marcus Jones over Jalen Reagor at KR
Layden Robinson third string guard
Tyquan Thornton over JuJu
JaMycal Hasty over Kevin Harris
Oshane Ximines over Joshua Uche

The hot takes about Maye after tonight either way will be cooking.
Option A: Maye looks rough, fans freak out
Option B: Maye looks good, fans turn on Brissett and scream for Maye to start
Option C: Maye looks rough, Milton looks good against 4th stringers, fans turn on Maye and scream for Milton
Option D: Maye and Milton both look rough, fans call for Wolf's firing
Option E: Maye and Milton both look rough but Zappe looks great - the apocalypse is upon us

I'm encouraged by some of Lazar's comments in his recent pod cast. He's one of the few in the media taking an optimistic outlook on Maye. He credited the coaching staff for having May work on his standard in the pocket short and intermediate throws which was not his forte in college. He thinks the staff has confidence in his ability to make deep throws on the run/out of structure and they want him to work on the in structure dink and dunk game. I hope they let him get uncorked if he's seeing multiple jail breaks and he's allowed to throw on the run.

I think that's where Baker and Polk could make some hay as well.

Option E would be the ZAPAPOCALYPSE!!!

Can we have a minute of silence before the game for the embarrassing performance of the US Basketball team?

Why is Tatum not playing ?

Potential Super Bowl preview here

Possible to see this game online?

OL - some semblance of a solid rotation - no sloppy penalties
General competence in the wr corp... can the rookies get separation
Game planning - are Mayo and his staff proactive in terms of situational football
defense: overall how Covington handles the play calling, and folded into that I want to see how the secondary plays... is 0 recovered from his injury most importantly

The "wishbone" offense

Option F: The OL sucks so the run game is pathetic. Whoever is at QB get chased all over. Fans are start wearing paper bags on their heads

I'll also be interested to see the new kickoff rules in action. I watched a few clips from the HoF game, but I imagine every team is going to approach it a little bit different. It'll be a curiosity if nothing else.

If Maye plays poorly tonight, just remember Stroud playing against us at this time last year and peeing down his leg. We’re looking at an incomplete product at this stage.

I shall be in bed asleep (I hope) so give a shout for me please. But I want Maye and Boutte to do well. Plus of course the whole team especialy the WR's.

I'm watching Caeden Wallace, Zuri Henry, Layden Robinson... if the young guys on the OL can't contribute this season we're not going anywhere.

I want to see the wr group, Wallace. And i guess maye
