Pretty close to what I was saying earlier. Our game is happening this week

crazy how 1 injured player can cause such an uproar. How many youths were shot dead in Chicago this past weekend? How many are praying for their loved ones or donating some $$$? This country has gone bat crazy. Hamlin is still alive people.
Why do you think that is ??? Lol

Speaking of other deaths it seems like a lot of athletes have suddenly dropped dead over the past couple of years. Lots of people with no health problems .

It sucks that this happens to Hamlin. But why was there no outrage (or even mention) for all these other athletes that just “dropped dead”?

It's a bit amusing to read a lot of these posts jonesing for a football game this Sunday in the name of entertainment and more important, money. The cavalier attitude over the emotional and mental effects on these players over what they witnessed happening to their brother is troubling. It's like we haven't learned anything about mental health in the last 10 years. Sure, these guys are trained to be tough, to play under constant pain, etc. but they were never trained to handle witnessing one of their own being brought back from death on the gridiron.

You had a stadium of 60k people in complete silence for almost an hour. Millions watching on the tube in shock. But none of us actually saw what was going on during those 8 to 15 minutes when the true heroes of the day were battling the Grim Reaper over Damar's life. There were only about 100 or so people that witnessed this. Most of them very young men used to playing video games.

I'm pretty sure that many of these young men are going through emotions they've never felt before, are in shock and probably suffering from ptsd. There's a reason the NFLPA said they are making all resources available to the players. Those resources are therapists or social workers trained to deal with these real life issues.

These two posts said some of the above much more eloquently so please re-read them.

I believe the game will be played this week, so you guys can relax & get back to b*tching and moaning on the GDT as the Bills spank the Pats in front of a national audience.

I don't think it's appropriate to characterize folks who think the games should be played this weekend as just "jonesing for football."

100% agree with you. I would like to see Buffalo win the SB this year and this year only.
The Pats do not deserve to be in the playoffs, because of their inconsistent play and just downright bad offense.
Pats have won 6 superbowls
Buffalo 0 Superbowls
Buffalo has been through hell this year
Josh Allen is a very likable leader and an exciting player to watch.

I will not actively root against Pats but will not be disappointed in any way to see Bills win on Sunday. Its a unique situation
I am sure they deserve all our admiration, and the Pats are warm dog puke, but I want New England to win, period. Any given game any given stakes. The chances are lowish this weekend, for the reasons you post. But those are reasons we'll be likely to be disappointed, not reasons not to root for the Pats, unless you aren't a Pats fan. I didn't see any Gintz fans in 2007 rooting against their team because the Patriots deserve it more, they were busy trumping up minor charges into a belief we didn't deserve it. What great guys, the Bills. What a tough freak occurence. My heart, once again, goes out to this guy. But you're all the way over there rooting for the wrong team here. Get ahold of yourself man.

I think a football schedule is not as important as the thoughts of football players. IMO there should not be NFL football games for the next two weeks. Then reset to the Bills & Bengals game on a Monday night followed by week 18 and then the playoffs and Super Bowl. Yes TV will have to adjust their schedule and I believe they can do it during the two weeks off. Same for the cities involved they can adjust. Everyone get your head screwed on properly.

my gosh, can we stop the madness. The US was not just nuked.

I do get both sides of the argument here.
I was a firefighter for 33 years. We lost 2 guys at a fire. The stations were covered with Mutual Aide for a day after the fire and during the Funerals. Otherwise the stations were manned with our personnel. It’s a job that you have to put up a mental barrier and forge ahead.
Saying that it is probably not healthy from a behavioral standpoint but it is a job that does not offer day’s off.
So I get some people saying the games must go on but also have seen people during medical incidents when they lose a loved one or witnessing CPR being performed on a loved one. It’s traumatic.
Since football is only a game with only the entertainment factor as it’s importance. I’ll leave that up to the players to decide. On a bright note, Damar is making strides and hopefully fully recovers. Hopefully whatever caused him to go into Cardiac arrest on the field is not lost in all of this, Hopefully the right precautions are made in the future. That’s when everyone wins. Go Pats and #3

This seems reasonable. Everyone gets a bye.

This would still push everything back a week though. Not sure I'm seeing the point other than to not have week 19 look weird with just one game. And the 1 seeds would have a 2 week layoff (unless the AFC top seed ends up being BUF or Cincy... but the NFC 1 seed still gets kinda shafted)

Edit: i guess no matter what happens, if they do play the Bengals/bills game the nfc 1 seed is going to be off 2 weeks

Obviously Damar's health is the most important thing, and football isn't within a fly's pube of importance compared to his health, and I obviously hope and pray for a full recovery from him, but,

Boy it really ****ing sucks that we have to be the first opponent to play Buffalo in Buffalo after that. Figure the place is going to be rocking and the Bills are gonna blow their load on us before petering out in the wildcard
I’m not at all criticizing you for prefacing your post in this manner but I feel like this sentiment is becoming akin to “Thank you for your service”. Can we agree as a site that we all feel that this was a tragic event and first and foremost we hope that he recovers fully, but at the same time can engage in a discussion about how the situation affects the Patriots and the rest of the league without having to apologize for that?

All AFC playoff teams get Wk 19 off except Bills-Bengals. NFC 1 seed gets 2 weeks off. NFC WC winners get Wk 20 off. Someone is getting shafted, no way out of that one. Schedule is rougher on Bills-Bengals if neither one gets the 1 seed but they basically already had a week off (kinda, not really).

If this is what they do and it’s announced before Sunday, it essentially plays out like the buf loss to cincy /kc win over vegas scenario alot of us we’re pulling for where Buffalo goes into our game unable to get the one seed.

They'd still have the 2 seed to play for.

I never got this argument since like baby says, the 2 seed plays the 7 seed.

When keepin’ it real goes wrong.

LOL, baseball??????

Pathetic.
Yeah why would any great athlete choose a sport with no long term ill health effects and even average players get fully guaranteed 9-figure contracts?

Just heard the same thing today on sports radio. Fecking Eagles and Chiefs would get 3 weeks off. Biggest advantage ever.
